Happy Friday Bayside!

It was an exciting week at Bayside with both Halloween and Diwali celebrations taking place. Ms. Prestayko and I were fortunate to enjoy some delicious treats with our lunchroom staff as some of them prepared for Diwali celebrations, classes learned about Diwali, and one of our grade 5 students even created videos with his family to share with our school community to help us learn about their cultural traditions! On Thursday, our staff and students had Halloween fun with costumes and special classroom activities. Today (Friday), our grade 5 team hosted the first learning celebration assembly of the year, kicking off a campaign for the Calgary Food Bank. All in all, it was a wonderful week of community and coming together.

Updates and Reminders:

Remembrance Day: The grade 4 team will be hosting our Remembrance Day assembly this year to share their learning with parents and our school community. In order to accommodate both parents and our students without exceeding gym capacity, there will be two assemblies: 8:30-9:15 AM (doors open at 8:15) and 1:45-2:15 PM (doors open at 1:30) on Thursday November 7. Grade 4 parents are welcome to join either assembly.

We will also be recognizing a moment of silence as a school community on November 7 at 10:58 AM (just before grade 1 & 2 lunch hour). For families whose children go home for lunch, please be aware that your child may be delayed by a few minutes due to the moment of silence on that day.

CBE Fall Well-being Series: The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in a pre-recorded and live online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and Recovery Alberta and will explore topics such as Peer Pressure, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens, and navigating Parent-Teen relationships. Check out the live and pre-recorded sessions in the link below:

Reminder to Subscribe to Commercial Messages: This week an email was sent regarding our Read-a-thon fundraiser and the Bayside School Apparel store. If you did not receive the emails, then you may not be signed up for “Commercial Messages”. Please click here to subscribe to ensure you do not miss out on any messages which involve fundraising or paid events (paid events include things like field trips and Picture day).

Food Drive: Thank you to the Grade 5 families who attended the Celebration of Learning. One part of the assembly was sharing about the work we have done creating infographics. Students researched about a question or topic relating to healthy eating. They then built an infographic to display their information using text, images, and a graph. During the month of November, the Grade 5 students will be hosting a Food Drive at Bayside School. Families are welcome to donate non-perishable foods that will be donated to the Calgary Food Bank. Students can bring their donations to their classroom. Updates on the Food Drive will be shared by classroom teachers and in our weekly Bayside updates on our website.  Thank you for supporting this food drive.

School Council and BSFA Updates:

Read-a-thon: Our Read-a-thon is underway! From November 1-24, we invite families to engage in the joy of reading and raise money for Bayside school in the process. Learn more about how you can help here.

School Council and BSFA Meeting: Our next meeting is Tuesday November 19 at 6 PM. School Council is a great opportunity to meet other parents and to find out what is happening at Bayside School. This month, our admin team will be sharing about Bayside’s School Development Plan and inviting parents to provide input and feedback on the planned goals. We hope to see you there!
