Hey there Bayside Parents and Guardians,

We are thrilled to announce that Bayside Council will be hosting a Read-a-Thon to inspire a love of reading while raising funds to support our school programs! The Read-a-Thon will take place from November 1st to November 24th, and we encourage all students to participate and enjoy the many benefits of reading.

What is a Read-a-Thon?

During the Read-a-Thon, students will set personal reading goals and track the number of minutes they spend reading each day. Friends, family  and neighbours can sponsor their efforts by pledging to support them for every minute they read or even by offering a flat donation. These contributions go directly toward enhancing our school’s resources, from new books and technology to enrichment programs and field trips that benefit every student.

How It Works

1. Set a Goal: Each student sets a reading goal in minutes for the duration of the Read-a-Thon. If you are unsure what an appropriate goal is for your child your teacher can help students set achievable and exciting targets.

2. Get Sponsors: Students can ask family members, neighbours and friends to sponsor their reading efforts. Sponsors may pledge per minute read or make a flat donation.

3. Track Reading Time: Students record their daily reading time on the tracking sheet provided and bring it to school to share their progress.

4. Celebrate Achievements: At the end of the Read-a-Thon, students will celebrate their reading accomplishments, and prizes will be awarded for various achievements (including gift cards and the coveted role of Principal for the day!)

5. Send your Read-a-thon donations to school during the week of November 25-28 (please hold onto your funds collected until that time).

How You Can Help

Encourage your child to read every day, even beyond their goal minutes. Help them track their reading, reach out to potential sponsors, and celebrate the joy of reading. Being "read to" can also be counted as minutes of reading. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to read together and support your child’s efforts. Forms will be sent home by Friday Nov.1 by your child's teacher.
