Happy Friday Bayside!
What an exciting week it was at Bayside! The Terry Fox Run today was a huge success. It was terrific to have volunteers helping with the counting of laps and all of our students kept moving and had big smiles on their faces. We also had a successful first meeting of School Council and BSFA on Tuesday evening. We discussed new fundraising ideas (walk-a-thon anyone?), support for school programs (our upcoming Slam Poetry Residency), and ways to recruit volunteers for our Casino fundraiser on Jan 5 & 6. Our amazing School Council also approved and provided mandarin oranges for the whole school for the Terry Fox Run! Thank you to the parents who attended and thank you to BSFA and Council for the refreshing treat!
UPDATES & REMINDERS:
Provincial Screeners for Alberta Students – 2026-27 School Year
For the 2026-27 school year, all Kindergarten to Grade 5 students will be assessed using provincially mandated screeners that measure a learner's proficiency in different literacy and numeracy skills. CBE teachers administer assessments at different points throughout the year. This week, our Grades 1-5 teachers began administering the assessments and in January, Kindergarten teachers will begin.
The results of the screeners do not impact a student's report card. Rather, they help teachers plan targeted interventions inside the classroom and monitor growth over time. Results of the screeners will be shared with parents before the Parent Teacher Conferences on November 26th and 27th. The Conferences will serve as an opportunity to have a conversation with your child's teacher around their screener results, as well as their classroom learning and achievement of the curriculum outcomes taught this fall. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher. We are also happy to answer any questions you have.
Parking Near Bayside School:
Parking is very limited directly beside Bayside School. We encourage families to park a few blocks away, if necessary, and enjoy a short walk to school in the morning with your child. This week one of our neighbours reported that cars had parked in front of their driveway, blocking the homeowners from leaving. Please be respectful to our neighbours and observe all traffic, parking, and safety rules. We appreciate everyone doing their part!

September 25th – IPP Conversations
Parents – there is no school for students on September 25th due to a non-instructional day. Teachers will be reaching out to families to discuss your student’s IPP that morning, if you have a student supported by an Individual Program Plan (IPP). This conversation is an opportunity to share your parent perspective for the 2026-27 school year regarding your student’s individualized program planning. Thank you for being a partner in your child's learning.

🍊 A Bold Move for a Great Cause!
Huge shoutout to one of our amazing volunteers, who went ahead and boldly procured 650 oranges as a post-Terry Fox Run treat, courtesy of council! Our runners are going to have some serious vitamin C waiting for them at the finish line. 🧡
Thank you for your dedication (and your grocery-run stamina)!
