Bayside September 8 Update

Happy Friday Bayside Parents,

It was a busy week of learning for Bayside students. At the beginning of the year, our focus is on coming together as a community, making new friends, and learning routines that will help to set our students up for success. One important tradition in our school is to have classroom buddies where classes in an older grade are paired with classes in a younger grade throughout the year. Students love to be with their buddies and we notice how these pairings help to build confidence for both our older students, who get to act as leaders, and our younger students, who have the opportunity to feel comfortable and safe with an older friend. We look forward to watching our buddies’ relationships blossom this year.

Another opportunity students have at Bayside to come together is through “Team Time” on Friday mornings. This year, each grade team will have a 30 minute Team Time on Fridays where classes will come to either the gym or the music room with another class they might not otherwise spend a great deal of time with.  During this time, our teachers will have collaborative time together as a grade team. The students will be involved in a variety of activities with our Administrative Team and our Music Teacher. Our first Team Time of the year will be next Friday, September 15.

Reminders and Updates:

Medical Forms: Please complete the CBE Student Health Plan Form if your child has any allergies or medical conditions, we need to be aware of. This form is also to be completed for any students who require medication at school or medication to be administered.

At Bayside School, student medications, including Epi-Pens and puffers, must be kept either in the office, or, if the child may require the medication in an emergency situation, in a fanny pack that the child wears at all times. We do not recommend that any medication, particularly emergency medications, be kept in backpacks as we can not guarantee that a child’s backpack can be easily found or readily accessible in an emergency. If you have any questions, or you would like to make a plan for your child’s medication at school, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to our office.

MyCBE/Powerschool : Parent Portal: Create a MyCBE Account: https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html Please make sure you have registered for your PowerSchool Parent Portal account. Contact Carol Lee in the main office if you require your child’s CBE ID.

Forms and Fees Parents will receive an email from CBE shortly with details on how to access beginning of the year forms. All forms are to be completed online. The forms that require your attention are:

  • Demographic Verification - 2023-24
  • Citizenship Information Update - 2023-24
  • Annual Authorization - 2023-24

Thank you for your prompt attention to these important forms.

Yearbooks: Our 2022-23 Bayside Yearbooks have been delivered to the school and they are FABULOUS! Thank you to Mr. Corriveau, Ms. Sanderson, and Ms. Gannon for working so hard to make our yearbook special. We will be distributing yearbooks to families who ordered them in the spring this coming week. Teachers will let families know when they can expect to see them in backpacks.

School Council AGM: Bayside School Council and Fundraising Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up on Tuesday September 19, starting at 6:30 PM. Our School Council meets in person at the school. If you are not able to join us in person, parents are also welcome to join us though an online link (shared through School Messenger before the meeting).

School Council is an excellent way to meet other Bayside parents, keep in touch with what is happening in our school, and provide input and feedback to help make our school the best that it can be. Through the year, each teaching team will also share a presentation about the learning occurring in their classrooms. At our AGM, there will be opportunities for parents who wish to join the Council executive as some of our members are stepping down. We will share more information about the available positions closer to the meeting. All parents of Bayside students are welcome at School Council meetings and we hope to see you there!

School Swag: We will be working with a new vendor this year and have formed a new staff committee to get things going! We will have information available soon about how you can order your very own Bayside swagJ

Busing and Transportation: Bus stop information is now available via your MyCBE account. Busing is not managed at the school level. If you have any questions related to bussing, you should contact the CBE Transportation department via email at transportation@cbe.ab.ca. I would like to acknowledge the patience of many of our families who live in Mahogany as they wait for their child’s bus registration to be processed. We are so glad you are here and know that the CBE is working hard to get students on the bus as soon as possible.

Meet the Teacher: Meet the Teacher is coming soon on Thursday September 21 (4:00-8:00 PM) and Friday September 22 (8:00 AM- 12:00 PM). Kindergarten conferences will also be available on Thursday September 21 during the day (8 AM-2:30 PM). At this first conference, parents can expect to share information about your child and family with the teacher and to ask questions about how to best set your child up for success at school. We are excited to welcome families and encourage you to bring your child so they can be part of the conversation about their learning and school experience. Online booking for conferences will open on Thursday September 14 at 4:30 PM in your MyCBE Account.
