Bayside September 28 Update

Hello Bayside Families!

It was wonderful to see so many Bayside students in their orange shirts today, honouring Truth and Reconciliation. We had an assembly, led by children in all grades, focusing on how our school is kind, caring, and welcoming, and highlighting Indigenous perspectives. The acknowledgement of the land encouraged students to connect their own cultural and lived experiences as well as showing respect and appreciation for Indigenous ways of knowing. We enjoyed artwork from our Kindergarten and grade 1s showing what makes Bayside a Safe, caring, and Welcoming school and we listened to Phyllis Webstad tell her story. Many of our students commented about how much they enjoyed the assembly on their way out of the gym. It was a special morning. There are a number of events happening in the Calgary Area this weekend for interested families.

Reminders and Updates:

Bus Zone: A reminder to parents and caregivers to please stay clear of the bus zone before and after school. In addition to our regular school bus, we often have buses for field trips that also use the bus zone. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students and families safe. We have also noticed that the sidewalk next to the bus zone can be quite congested at the end of the day. We encourage adults and students to walk your bikes or scooters if you are travelling on this part of the sidewalk during our busy dismissal time.

Changes to the volunteer clearance process: There have been some changes to the CBE volunteer clearance process. Visit the CBE Volunteers page for information about how to apply. If you have any questions, or would like to check when your volunteer clearance expires, please contact our office bayside@cbe.ab.ca or call 403-817-3436.

Alberta Engagement on DRAFT Social Studies Curriculum: Alberta Education is inviting parents and other stakeholders to provide input and feedback on the DRAFT Social Studies Curriculum. Click here to read the letter from the Minister and for the links to provide your input.

Dogs on School Property: A reminder to our families that dogs are not permitted on school property according to City of Calgary Bylaw. We love our furry friends but there are people with varying levels of sensitivity in our community and we need to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable. Thank you!
