Bayside October 6 Update
Happy Friday Bayside Families!
Bayside School hosted a professional development opportunity with Open Minds/ Campus Calgary this week. You may have seen a group of us exploring the beautiful Auburn Bay Community. Teachers from many schools joined us and it was an excellent opportunity to think about connecting student learning to the world around us. Ms. Iafolla’s class also finished up an amazing week at Jube School. Thank you to the many parent volunteers who joined the class to make it possible!
Reminders & Updates:
Balancing Student Enrolment: Bayside families received a message on Wednesday October 4 about the need to balance student numbers in Kindergarten and Grade 3 and a plan to reallocate resources to support grade 4 students with larger classes. We are excited for the year ahead and we know these changes will benefit our students.
- -Our Kindergarten students have already begun their new class configuration and had a very successful day with Ms. Sanderson and Ms. Mumford. Thank you to our Kindergarten team for your incredible flexibility and for doing such an amazing job of preparing our students for a smooth transition. Ms. Veronese’s class will begin in their new classroom space on Tuesday October 10.
- -Grade 3 students will begin in their new class configuration on Tuesday October 10. Ms. Mask’s students will be using Door C (the same door as our grade 1 classes) to enter and exit the school to relieve some of the congestion around Door D. Thank you to our grade 3 team for their thoughtful work in creating a new class and in supporting our students with their transition.
- -Ms. Van Runt will begin working with her group of students in literacy and math on Wednesday October 11. Thank you to Ms. Van Runt and to the grade 4 team for their flexibility and unwavering support of students.
New Riders on the Bus: Many of our students are now being added to bus routes daily. You can view your child’s bus stop and other transportation information through your MyCBE Account. When your child is ready to take the bus, please email your child’s teacher and bayside@cbe.ab.ca to let us know when your child’s first day on the bus will be and if they will be riding to and/or home from school that day. This communication will enable us to ensure your child knows what to do at the end of the day so they can feel confident about their bus ride home.
Terry Fox Run: We are excited to host our Terry Fox run on Thursday October 12th in the afternoon. We are fundraising by collecting toonies at school. We will be collecting donations from Tuesday October 10th until Friday October 13th. If you would like to donate by credit card, here is the link you can follow https://schools.terryfox.ca/Ba.... All funds go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.
Assembly in the Gym for Students at 12:45 PM with the run beginning at approximately 1:15 PM on our school field. If you are able to volunteer for the run, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
World Teachers’ Day: We showed appreciation for our teachers this week with World Teachers’ Day on October 5. I encourage you to watch this short video celebrating the important work teachers do each and every day in CBE. (You may even spot some Bayside students whose photos were captured during our school opening last year:).
Lakeshore Basketball: On Thursday our Grade 5 classes were lucky to have special guests from Lakeshore School, Ms. Clark and the Senior Girls Basketball team teach us basketball skills and drills in the gym. They answered many great questions from our students and explained what it’s like to play on a school sports team. We are thankful to have them take the time to share their knowledge and skill with us.
