Happy Friday Bayside!

We welcomed 6 student teachers from the University of Calgary  and St. Mary’s University this week! We are so grateful to be a part of these future teachers’ journeys and we know they are learning so much from our amazing staff and students.  During their practicum, under the supervision of the classroom teacher, student teachers will be planning and leading lessons, participating in important meetings (such as learning conferences), and supporting with the myriad of other tasks that make up a teacher's day (supervision, team planning, committee work). Each experience is an important step as they work towards their Education degrees and future employment as teachers. Our student teachers will be with us until December and those from U of C will be returning to us in February for a second practicum. We are so happy to have them here at Bayside!

REMINDERS & UPDATES:

Bayside School Food Bank Drive:

Bayside School will be collecting donations for the Veterans Association Food Bank from November 2nd to November 26th.

The Veterans Association Food Bank supports current and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. It also helps members of the RCMP, Peacekeepers, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and Commonwealth Allied Forces who are in need.

What can you donate?

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Household items: (aluminum foil, Ziploc bags, paper towels, and toilet paper)
  • Personal care items: (shampoo and conditioner)

Students can bring donations to school and place them in the collection boxes located throughout the hallways.

Reminder that the last day to donate is Thursday, November 26.

Thank you for helping our school community support those who have served our country and their families!

Remembrance Day: Our grade 4 team is hosting the Remembrance Day assemblies on November 10th. As this will be their learning celebration assembly and we invite grade 4 parents to join us at either 8:45 AM (doors open at 8:30) or at 1:45 PM (Doors open at 1:30). Both assemblies will be the same with different classes attending due to gym capacity. Grade 4 parents are welcome to choose either time according to your availability.

On Remembrance day we will also hold a school-wide moment of silence just before 11:00 AM. Please be aware that students who normally go home for lunch at that time may be slightly delayed in leaving the school (perhaps by 5 minutes).

Winter Weather Reminders:

Students will be outside for both learning and playing in all weather. It is only in frigid temperatures that students stay indoors (-20 degrees and below, with the wind chill). Thank you for ensuring your child has proper clothing and gear to enjoy his or her time outdoors. Having indoor shoes is a requirement for students. If your family requires financial assistance for winter clothing or other supplies such as footwear, please reach out to us so we can assist.

Provincial Screener Results for Students in Grades 1-5

Teachers of students in grades 1-5 will have sent home copies of your child's results from the mandated literacy & numeracy screeners completed by classroom teachers this fall. The Calgary Board of Education shared information with parents through email on Monday, October 26th. Teachers look forward to discussing the results of the screeners and your child's learning of the curricular outcomes learned thus far, at Parent Teacher Conferences in November. Note - Kindergarten students will be assessed in January, 2027.

Bayside, it’s Time to… Rock Your Mocs!

Rock Your Mocs is an annual week-long celebration that promotes cultural pride by encouraging Indigenous peoples to share their stories through posting photos of and wearing their moccasins. It is a day we can all participate in and a positive opportunity to celebrate unity by wearing your moccasins. We honor Indigenous peoples worldwide, during Rock Your Mocs events.

On November 16th we will honor the start of Metis Week with a special Rock your Mocs Fancy Feet day at Bayside. We would love to invite you to wear your moccasins, traditional, fancy or even your favorite footwear to school.  Let’s celebrate together!
