Bayside October 13 Update

Happy Friday Bayside Families!

We had a great Terry Fox Run assembly and run on Thursday. Thank you to our grade 5 team for hosting our assembly and organizing the run as well as the parent volunteers who came to support. We were pleased to have a special guest, Mike Harder (Mrs. Harder’s husband), speak to the children about his recent experience overcoming cancer. Mrs. Harder even cut her hair during the assembly in order to donate it to make wigs for people who lose their hair due to cancer treatments. After the assembly, our students ran their hearts out and “tried like Terry” to do their best. It was great to see their flushed faces and hear the pride in their accomplishments after the run. We will communicate our fundraising and laps totals once the final calculations have been completed.

Updates and Reminders:

Halloween at Bayside: Halloween day, Tuesday October 31, will be a special learning day at Bayside School. Classes will not be having Halloween parties or an assembly but may engage in Halloween or Autumn-themed learning activities. We know that many of our families look forward to Halloween each year and welcome the opportunity to capitalize on our students’ excitement to enhance their learning.

Please have your child bring a healthy snack for him- or her-self only. Please do not send a treat for the whole class as we will not be having class parties on that day.

We invite students and staff to wear costumes for the day, if they wish. When choosing a costume to wear to school please remember:

  • Keep your child’s comfort and safety in mind for indoor and outdoor play. Make sure your child can wear a coat and indoor and outdoor shoes with their costume.
  • Long capes, uncomfortable shoes, or other tripping hazards are discouraged. Students should be able to participate in gym and outdoor play safely.
  • Please ensure their vision is not obscured by their costume. For this reason, masks should not be worn.
  • Please leave loose props at home. We cannot be responsible for anything lost or left behind at the school before Halloween night. Please do not send costume weapons to school (swords, guns, etc.)
  • No scary or gory costumes. Please remember we have small children in the building as well as students and staff with varying levels of sensitivity. We want everyone to feel safe and have fun!

Lost and Found: We want to reunite our students with their belongings! Classes will be touring the lost and found this week. If you know your child is missing an item (jacket, sweater, hat, …), please let their teacher know and we will help them to look for it.

School Safety Patrols: We are excited to share with you that Bayside School has been approved for grade 5 Safety Patrols. Ms. Curnew has begun organizing this important endeavour and the grade 5 students have been invited to join the team. Students who indicate interest in joining patrols will bring home a parent consent form. Please have them return it to Ms. Curnew. AMA patrol training and practice will occur near the end of October. We will let parents know when our patrol team is ready to begin their official duties.

Club News: See updates about Volleyball and Chess Clubs here.

Photo Day: Lifetouch Photos will be at Bayside School on Thursday October 19 so make sure your child wears their brightest smileJ Ms. McNabb’s grade 2 class, who will be at Zoo School for the day, will have their photos on Nov.15, photo retake day.

Bus Zone: A reminder to parents and caregivers to stay clear of our bus zone before and after school. In addition to our regular bus to Mahogany, we frequently have buses picking up or returning from field trips so there is often a need for space for more than one bus. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!
