Happy Thursday Bayside!

I am sharing the weekly message a day early as tomorrow is a non-instructional day and our students will begin their fall break. We were very fortunate to have the grade 4 team host two beautiful and meaningful Remembrance Day assemblies for our school. The MCs did a wonderful job and the poetry and music were very hear-felt. Thank you to our teachers for their work and preparation and to our families who were able to join us. On behalf of the Bayside school community, I would like to express our gratitude to all veterans and to those serving in the Canadian Armed forces.

Updates and Reminders:

CBE System Indigenous Education Professional Learning Day: There are no classes tomorrow (Friday, November 8), as it is a Non-Instruction Day. Bayside staff will be engaging in important learning tomorrow, as we continue to move forward in our commitments to Truth and Reconciliation.

We also wish to acknowledge and honour the memory of Murray Sinclair, who passed away on Monday, November 4. Murray Sinclair, a former senator and the first Indigenous judge in Manitoba, was an extraordinary advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples. Mr. Sinclair’s work chairing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission has led to great awareness and change throughout Canada, including helping to inform and inspire the values of the Calgary Board of Education

Remembrance Day & Fall Break: Monday, November 11 is Remembrance Day – the school is closed. Tuesday and Wednesday (November 12 & 13), the school is also closed due to the CBE Fall Break. Classes resume on Thursday, November 14

Friday November 15 will be a regular early dismissal at noon. PM Kindergarten will attend.

Food Bank Drive: Our grade 5 team has begun their November Food Bank Drive for the Calgary Food Bank. All students are invited to bring non-perishable food items during the month of November. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Bayside Rock Your Mocs: Rock Your Mocs is an annual week-long campaign starting November 12 that promotes cultural pride by encouraging Indigenous peoples to share their stories through posting photos of and wearing their moccasins. It is a day we can all participate in and a positive opportunity to celebrate unity by wearing moccasins. We honor Indigenous peoples worldwide, during Rock Your Mocs events.

On November 15th we would love to invite you to wear your moccasins to school. Let’s celebrate together and ROCK OUR MOCS! If you have moccasins or traditional footwear you would like to wear to school please join us on November 15th to celebrate ROCK YOUR MOCS day at Bayside School.
