Bayside November 17 Update
Happy Friday Bayside!
It was a joyful week at Bayside with students engaging in learning and celebration around Diwali and Metis Week. Thank you again to Emily and Lindsay for their beautiful sharing on Louis Riel day with our grade 3-5 classes and to Anusha for sharing the precious items for our Diwali display. These celebrations are important to many families in our community and we hope they help our students to learn about each other and to feel a sense of belonging at Bayside. We are looking forward to December and opportunities to learn about and recognize Christmas, Winter Solstice, and Hanukkah. If your family celebrates a special holiday in December that is not included in this list, please reach out and share. We would love to learn more!
Reminders and Updates
Patrols: Our grade 5 Safety Patrols have begun their duties and are doing an excellent job of helping families to cross the road safely. They are still learning their roles and have taken on this important responsibility with great enthusiasm. We ask that the adults in our community watch out for our patrols as you are driving and that you follow their direction both when you are a driver or when you are a pedestrian. Thank you for supporting our grade 5 patrol team!
Winter Performances, December 18-21: We are excited to invite parents to join us for caroling and sing-along as well as grade team performances during the last week of classes before Winter Break. On their day, each group will perform a song and lead a song for the sing-along. We are hopeful that by scheduling the performances close to the beginning and end of the school day, after drop-off and before pick-up, many parents will be able to attend. Come prepared to be entertained and to participate! Here is the schedule for when each grade is performing:
Monday December 18: 1:45-2:15 PM Grade 3
Tuesday December 19: 8:15-8:45 AM Grade 1, 1:45-2:15 PM Grade 4
Wednesday December 20: 8:15-8:45 AM Grade 2, 1:45-2:15 PM Grade 5

Scholastic Book Fair – Students will visit the Book Fair during the week of Nov 20, with actual sales taking place during conferences on Nov 23-24. Students will bring home a flyer outlining some of the books that will be available. We also remind students that any purchases are a family decision.
Please do not send money to school with your child. There will be no shopping during the school day. All purchases will be made with parents present during Parent Teacher interviews.
During the Fair, there will be a display outlining wish lists of books for the individual classrooms. If parents want, they can purchase a book from the list, and donate it to their child’s classroom.
As Bayside Fundraising Association (BFA) is running this Book Fair completely, BFA will earn 25% in cash from ALL purchases made during the Fair.
