Happy Friday Bayside!
We had a fantastic school council meeting this week. I was able to update parents on Kindergarten registration, our upcoming author visit with Carolyn Fisher, swimming for grades 1-3, and our learning update showcased some of the amazing hands-on learning that is occurring in all grades. School Council is a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents and to receive updates and offer input into making Bayside a wonderful learning environment for all of our students. If you are uncertain about attending, I encourage you to come to just one and try it out… our council members are honestly the best people! You can be an active participant or just come to listen and learn. All parents who attend council are able to vote on motions so you can have a direct impact on decisions that are made in the school, just by being there. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me (djmcasey@cbe.ab.ca) or to our school council members (schoolcouncilbayside@gmail.com).
UPDATES & REMINDERS:
Report Cards & Parent Teacher Interviews
Report Cards will be available for viewing on February 24th. The first report card reflects achievement of the outcomes taught throughout the reporting period. The CBE has published some helpful resources for parents around assessment that you can view here. Your child’s teacher is the best resource for you to connect with around assessment of your child’s learning. Parent Teacher Conferences on March 19 & 20 are a formal opportunity to connect; however, please reach out with any questions in advance. We are aware that Eid is also on March 19th and 20th this year and that some of our families who celebrate may be unable to attend conferences. We will make sure those families have an opportunity to find an alternate time to meet with their child's teacher.
Kindergarten and New Student Registration for the 2026-27 School Year: Beginning Jan. 12, 2026, registration opens for kindergarten, as well as for new Grade 1–12 students, for the 2026–2027 school year.
Please be aware: Registration is not first-come, first-served.
Children are eligible for kindergarten in September 2026 if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2026.
To register your child for school, you must create a SchoolEngage account. Once an account is created, you will receive confirmation and can register your child.

Every Child Matters Club
This week, Ms. Mask will be starting the Every Child Matters group. This is an opportunity for Bayside’s identified Indigenous students to come together with Ms. Mask approximately twice a month. Students in the group will have the opportunity to learn about Smudging, traditional medicines, land-based practices, indigenous leaders and cultural practices from different nations. Parents of identified Indigenous students will be receiving communication and participation in the group is entirely optional. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Mask (ejmask@cbe.ab.ca) or myself (djmcasey@cbe.ab.ca)
