Happy Friday Bayside!

We had a great School council meeting on Tuesday evening where I shared information about our School Development Plan and our budgeting process, then asked for feedback from parents. If you were not able to make it to the meeting, we hope you will take some time to complete the online survey (see below for links). The school development plan guides our work with students at Bayside and helps us to focus our efforts to improve student learning. This year, teachers are focusing on assessment practices and improving learning by engaging students in the assessment process and giving them access to timely and actionable feedback. Our grade 4 team did a wonderful job of sharing our School Development Plan in action by sharing about the writing process in their classrooms and how various assessment tools (rubrics, checklists, etc.) support our students to improve their writing.

Wear Pink!: Pink Shirt Day is coming up on Wednesday February 28 and we invite Bayside students to wear something pink. We have an exciting assembly planned with a special performance by one of our grade 4 students, Theo, and his band “The Hulagens”. Pink Shirt Day is recognized each year to highlight the importance of standing up to bullying and creating safe and welcoming spaces for all. This year’s theme is “lift each other up”. Due to limited capacity in our gym, this will be an assembly for students and staff only.

Wild Numeracy: Grade 4 students in Mrs. Iafolla’s class participated in the Wild Numeracy Math/ Art contest hosted by Willow Park School. All of the students created amazing art inspired by mathematical concepts (geographic shapes, fractions, symmetry) and three of our students’ pieces were chosen to be displayed in the exhibition. Congratulations to Blake, Maiyla and Lidia!
