Bayside December 1 Update

Happy December 1 Bayside!

We celebrated our successful book fair today with a pajama day and a brief assembly where some of our teachers volunteered to be pied! This was a fundraising effort planned by the Bayside School Fundraising Association (BSFA) with the help of our library assistant, Mrs. Fitz. We were able to raise over $2700. The money raised will be used to support school programs such as field trips, presentations, enhancements for our classrooms, school events (such as Sports Day), etc. We had so much fun today and appreciate the hard work of our volunteers and the incredible generosity of our school community.

Coming Up/ Reminders:

Magic of Christmas: Throughout the month of December, Bayside school will be collecting donations for The Magic of Christmas!  This charitable initiative is being organized by Ms. Gartner’s and Ms. Gannon’s classes and is, of course, optional for families to participate.

Every Christmas Eve, volunteers load up Calgary Transit buses and deliver gifts and Christmas cheer into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.  The Magic of Christmas visits Calgarians of all ages, from newborns to grandparents.  All gift donations that arrive must be new, unused, and unwrapped.  We will be accepting donations at the school until December 20th.

Please see the attached Christmas Wish List with suggestions of how you can help infants, children, teens, parents and grandparents all have a magical Christmas!

Yellow Fish Road Project- Copper Wire recycling: The grade 2 classes are collecting the items for their Conservation Champions project that they will be presenting at the Zoo in May.  The money raised will be used to buy supplies needed to teach the Auburn Bay community about the Yellow Fish Roads program.

We will be collecting items from Dec. 1-21.  The bins will be weighed and the class with the most will win a pizza party for their class in the New Year!

Please consult the list of items to ensure you are bringing appropriate items for this project. We are unable to accept things like car batteries or paint cans. These items can be taken to a local fire station for safe disposal.

Items to be collected:

  • extension cords
  • holiday lights
  • old chargers or cords
  • pots and pans
  • scrap copper pipe
  • stainless steel cutlery
  • insulated wire
  • stainless steel travel mugs or water bottles
  • aluminum food cans
  • computer wires
  • ethernet cables
  • any other small wires or metal are acceptable

Traffic Safety Patrols: Our patrols our working so hard to help everyone to cross the road safely before and after school. Please help them by setting a good example for our students and community by following the directions of the patrols.

  • If you are a pedestrian, please wait until you hear the patrols say “Proceed” before crossing the road.
  • If you are a driver, please be patient and stop before the crosswalk and eye contact with the adult supervisor or one of our student patrols before moving into the intersection.

Thank you for helping to keep our community safe!
