Happy Friday Bayside,

Next week will be a short week filled to the brim with exciting learning! With Valentines Day coming up on February 14, Bayside school will be focusing on friendship and kindness. Our classes will be making a special effort to show appreciation and kindness to the often unsung heroes of Bayside… our amazing support staff: Our wonderful office staff who keep us all organized and greet every student with a smile; our dedicated lunchroom staff who ensure students’ safety and well-being through the lunch hour; our hard-working facilities staff who keep the school clean; our education assistants who support all students; our bus drivers who get students to and from school safely every day; our lovely library assistant who encourages every child to read… we appreciate them all so much!

UPDATES AND REMINDERS:

Olympic Day: Bayside is celebrating the Winter Olympics with an Olympic themed spirit day on February 9. Students are invited to wear your team colours to show your Olympic spirit. We are looking forward to the mosaic of colours that makes up the Bayside community!

Your Voice Matters: Parents of students in grade 4 at Bayside school will be receiving an invitation from Alberta Education (via email) to participate in the annual Assurance survey. The information gathered from the survey helps to shape our priorities in the School Development Plan. Grade 4 students and teachers will also participate in the survey. More information about the Alberta Assurance Survey can be found here: https://bayside.cbe.ab.ca/news/your-voice-matters-share-your-thoughts-on-alberta-schools

Lakeshore Lottery Update: What you need to know… (the following information was sent in an email to grade 5 parents on Friday Jan. 30)

·              Grade 5 students at Auburn Bay, Bayside, and Mahogany Schools are automatically enrolled in the lottery for Grade 6 at Lakeshore School. There is no action required on your end

·              Lakeshore follows the CBE Lottery Process

·              The map outlining the Lakeshore Lottery Zone is HERE

·              The lottery will be held on Wednesday, February 11th with communication of acceptance or non-acceptance happening shortly thereafter via email to all families

·              Students not accepted will be automatically designated to our overflow school, Nickle School

·              Students not accepted will remain on the Lakeshore callback list in lottery priority order, provided they are attending at Nickle School

·              If your child is NOT planning on attending Lakeshore next year, please email lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca to inform our team

·              Both Lakeshore and Nickle will lead students and families through a transition, including school visits to our feeder schools and open house opportunities

Bayside Valentines: Since February 14 is a non-instructional day, Families are welcome to send valentines to school on Wednesday February 11 but are not required to do so. Our classes will be emphasizing kindness and friendship and the focus will be on student learning and belonging. The specific activities will be at the teacher’s discretion.

Some general guidelines to ensure our students have a positive experience:

·       If you choose to send Valentines to school, please send enough cards for each child in the class. Teachers will let you know how many students to plan for.

·       Please consider addressing Valentines “To my friend”, rather than specific names. This allows for much more efficient and manageable handing out of the cards, especially for our younger students. Teachers will not send class lists home.

·       As on a regular day, please send a healthy snack for your child. We will not be having class parties with shared treats.

·       If you would like to include a small treat in your Valentines, please consider sending a non-food treat such as fun erasers, pencils, stickers, etc. Candy treats will be sent home with students at the end of the day to be eaten at home.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
