Happy Friday Bayside!

We enjoyed two lovely concerts this morning performed by our grade 4 and 5 classes. Ms. McCune has had an extraordinarily busy spring, planning, preparing and directing concert performances for all grades as well as an evening ORFF the Wall performance at the Jack Singer concert hall… all while continuing her regular teaching duties! Our music program is so important, both for the learning benefits it provides as well as for the culture of the school and we are so grateful to be able to provide these creative opportunities to our students.

REMINDERS & UPDATES

Ms. Prestayko on Leave: Our Assistant Principal, Ms. Prestayko is currently on leave, likely until the end of the school year. At this time, Ms. Charlotte Arbuckle, who spent time in Bayside School prior to Winter break is acting as Assistant Principal for a short time, until May 14. Mr. Mike Hebenton will join us after the May long weekend, beginning on May 21 as acting Assistant Principal until the end of the year. We know that Ms. Prestayko has been an important point of contact for many families. In her absence, please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher, bayside@cbe.ab.ca, and Mrs. McAsey djmcasey@cbe.ab.ca.

Sports Day: Bayside Sports Day is coming up on Friday, June 19, and we are looking for parent volunteers to help run activity stations!

Volunteering at a station is a fun way to support our students and be part of this exciting school event. No special experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help students have a great time.

If you are available, have a current CBE volunteer clearance, and are interested in volunteering, please sign up using the link below:

Thank you so much for your support—we truly appreciate your help in making Sports Day a memorable experience for all students!

Grade 1-3 Swimming: A reminder to parents to please return your student’s swimming forms as soon as possible. The YMCA would like swimming ability forms by May 15 so they can organize groups for lessons. The fee for swimming is $30 and is available in your MyCBE account for payment. If you have not yet received your child's swimming forms, please reach out to your child's teacher.

SCHOOL COUNCIL & BSFA NEWS:

Annual General Meeting: Tuesday, May 12, 2026*🕕 6:00 PM📍 Bayside School

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

The AGM is an important opportunity for our school community to come together as we review the past year and look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year. We will be discussing key initiatives including budgets, fundraising efforts, playground plans, student celebrations, and so much more!

During the meeting, we will also:

  • Elect new council members
  • Say a heartfelt thank you and goodbye to some of our longstanding members
  • Welcome returning members who will continue to support our council in the coming year ❤️

We are incredibly proud of the work our council has done and are so excited to share new ideas and plans with you. This is a wonderful chance to get involved, connect with other families, and have your voice heard in shaping our school community.

We are currently looking to fill a few roles for next year:

📝 Secretary: A commitment of approximately 1–1.5 hours per month. Responsibilities include attending meetings and keeping clear, organized notes.

📱 Social Media & Social Media Support: Help us celebrate and promote all the amazing things happening at Bayside! This role requires active engagement and about 5–6 hours per month.

🌟 General Council Rock Stars: Perfect for those who want to stay involved without a fixed role. Whether it’s helping at events, supporting hot lunch days, making a quick Costco run, or lending a hand when needed—we truly appreciate every bit of support!

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please reach out to us at:schoolcouncilbayside@gmail.com
