Happy Thursday Bayside!

Spring Break is (almost) upon us! As I write this update, families are visiting their students’ classrooms and circulating through the Book Fair. We decided to try something new this year and host student-led conferences for our Spring conference time. Given that report cards were sent home only a short while ago, it was a perfect opportunity to have our students reflect upon and share their learning with their families. We hope this time together provides insight into your child’s learning and growth thus far this year.

REMINDERS & UPDATES:

Read-a-thon Results: The results of our second annual Read-a-thon will be shared with families tomorrow, Friday March 20 through email and on our Website! Thank you to everyone who participated. We look forward to celebrating with our students after the break.

Preparing for 2026-27 School Year: At this time of year, we begin our staffing processes for the fall using the information we have available. For the 2026-27 school year, Bayside will continue to serve the communities of Auburn Bay and Mahogany as the overflow school for Mahogany community. As families are aware, Andrew Sibbald has also been established as a second overflow school for the community of Mahogany. We are working in partnership with Mahogany school, Andrew Sibbald School, and our Area 5 Director to balance student numbers so we can provide quality education and keep our students as close to home as possible. At this time, Mahogany and Bayside are processing new registrations for the next school year. Families will receive a confirmation email once this process is complete.

Please know that all current Bayside students entering Grades 1-5 for the 2026-27 school year will be automatically enrolled into a classroom as long as you remain within our designated attendance boundaries. If you know that your student will not be attending Bayside in Grades 1-5 next year because you are moving or have moved out of the community, please contact bayside@cbe.ab.ca to let us know. Thank you!

Kindergarten Registration Update: Bayside has had a large volume of next year Kindergarten students overflowed from Mahogany School. At this time we are processing registrations as quickly as possible. We anticipate that we will be overflowing some Kindergarten students to Andrew Sibbald as per the announcement regarding changes to overflow designation on March 4, 2026. A reminder that these changes apply only to families who live in the community of Mahogany. Families will receive a confirmation email in mid-late April about their designated school and enrollment in AM or PM classes. Families who are overflowed to Andrew Sibbald will be placed on a call-back list and will be offered placement at Bayside or Mahogany as spaces become available.

SCHOOL COUNCIL & BSFA:

April Meeting: Our next School Council & BSFA meeting will be Tuesday April 14 at 6PM. We will be reviewing the budget and fundraising plan for next year so it is a great meeting to come to if you would like to be part of the decision making!
