Happy Friday Bayside!
It was an action-packed Friday with Team time in the gym and music room and the Snack Shack open for Kindergarten, grade1, and grade 2 classes. In team time, our administrative team, Ms. Cassan, and Ms. McCune played fun, cooperative games with the students while their teachers had the opportunity to collaborate and plan in teams. Every time I get to spend time in the gym, I am amazed at Ms. Cassan’s creativity and talent as a teacher. Our students in grades 3-5 had so much fun and worked in groups of 4-5 to solve a variety of hula hoop challenges. It was an excellent opportunity to see our students solving problems, building their interpersonal skills, and showing resilience when things got tricky. Our younger students worked on fair play, taking turns, some simple math using dice (do you know what subitize means?), and working with a variety of partners. Ask your child about team time today😊
Reminders and Updates:
Grade 5 Snack Shack: Today’s Grade 5 Friday Snack Shack was a big success. Thank you to the volunteers who helped to stock up and run the Snack Shack with the students. Our students were very professional and organized which helped things to run smoothly. This is an opportunity for our grade 5 students to raise money to support the Grade 5 Farewell celebration at the end of the school year and is also a wonderful way to build in financial literacy learning in a very authentic way. Next Friday April 11, students in Kindergarten and grades 3-5 will have a chance to visit the Snack Shack. Please watch for a reminder from your teacher and visit our Website for details.
Spring Staffing: At this time of year, we begin our staffing for September 2025 using the information we have available. For the 2025-26 school year, Bayside will continue to serve the communities of Auburn Bay and Mahogany as the overflow school for Mahogany community. We are working in partnership with Mahogany school and our Area 5 Director to balance student numbers in both schools so we can provide quality education and keep our students as close to home as possible. Some families currently attending Bayside this year will have received (or will receive) a call with an invitation to attend Mahogany school next year. Both schools are wonderful places of learning and we encourage parents to make the choice that works best for you and your family. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
In April we will be making some preliminary decisions and plans in order to begin hiring staff for next year and then we will adjust our staffing in the fall once we have more certainty about how many students are actually enrolled in each grade. At the end of June all parents will receive a message from me, letting you know how many classes we expect in each grade. I will also share the names of our confirmed staff at that time. In August, after teachers have returned from summer break and prior to the first day of school, you will receive a welcome email from your child’s teacher.
Kindergarten Registration Update: Our office staff are currently processing the Kindergarten registrations in SchoolEngage. Parents can expect to receive an email to confirm that your registration has been processed. No further action needs to be taken. If we are missing any forms or documentation, we will reach out to you.
AM and PM placement will be communicated to families at the end of April or in early May, once we have confirmed the number of classes available. If requests for either AM or PM exceed the number of spaces available at that time, we will conduct a draw. Families who do not receive their preferred placement will be placed on a wait list. Spaces will be offered in the order of the draw as spaces become available. Thank you for your patience!
Evergreen Theatre: Evergreen Theatre was unable to perform this week due to staff illness so we have rescheduled the performance for April 15! Students in Kindergarten-Grade 5 will have the opportunity to enjoy “Through the Looking Glass: Alice’s Alberta Energy Adventure” during the school day in either a morning or afternoon performance. Thank you to the BSFA for funding this theatrical experience for our students!
Bayside Family Survey: There is still time to give your input on the design of the stepping stones for our outdoor classroom! Please take a few minutes to share about your family's connections to the land in our brief survey. The survey will be open until April 12.
