September 19 Update
Happy Friday Bayside Families!
As we welcome the crisp air and changing colors of the fall equinox on September 22, it’s a wonderful reminder of the importance of gratitude and preparation for what is to come in the Winter months. Looking ahead, I want to highlight that next Wednesday, September 24, we will observe Orange Shirt Day — a meaningful opportunity for our community to honor Indigenous voices and reflect on the importance of reconciliation. I’m proud of how our students and staff continue to embrace these moments with respect and awareness.
REMINDERS AND UPDATES:
Bayside Bus Zone
A reminder to parents that the bus zone along Auburn Springs Blvd is a no parking zone. Please do not drop students off in the bus zone as this creates safety concerns for the students and staff who are boarding and exiting the bus and makes it difficult for the drivers to pull in and out of the zone safely. Parents can report parking or traffic concerns to Calgary police using the links available on the City of Calgary website: https://www.calgary.ca/cps/traffic/traffic-service-requests.html
Pedestrian Safety
Our teachers reviewed pedestrian safety with students this week. We have noticed that people are following the lead of our amazing School Safety Patrol team at the big crosswalk across Auburn Springs Blvd but some of our students and families are being less cautious and attentive crossing other roads. Remember:
- Look for a crosswalk, never run out from between parked cars.
- Think “Point, Pause. Proceed”
o Point: give a signal you are ready to cross, put out your hand and make eye-contact with the driver.
o Pause: WAIT until all drivers stop
o Proceed: walk safely across the road
Mahogany School Call-backs
For the 2025-26 school year, Bayside continues to serve the communities of Auburn Bay and Mahogany as the overflow school for Mahogany School (Mahogany community's regular program school). In September, regular program schools, like Mahogany, review their current enrolment and, if space is available, will conduct call-backs to offer available spaces to students currently attending the overflow school. We are working in partnership with Mahogany school and our Area 5 Director to balance student numbers in both schools so we can provide quality education and keep our students as close to home as possible. Some families currently attending Bayside this year will have received (or will receive) a call with an invitation to attend Mahogany school. Both schools are wonderful places of learning and we encourage parents to make the choice that works best for you and your family. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Bayside Meet the Teacher Night
Meet the Teacher night is on Thursday September 25. This year we are trying a new format! Parents will sign up for a 20 minute time slot through MyCBE to visit your child’s classroom and meet their teacher. Each 20 minute time slot will have up to 4 families visiting at a time. Our hope is that this new format allows for families to tour the classroom with your child, meet your teacher, and interact with other families as well. Sign up will be available online beginning on Sept. 18 at 6PM through your MyCBE account.
Orange Shirt Day
Bayside School will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday September 24. We encourage students and staff to wear an orange shirt that day to show your support for truth and reconciliation. This year Bayside School will be focusing on Phyllis Webstad’s story, her resilience, and her message that every child matters.
Terry Fox Run
The Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday October 3 in the Bayside school field. Teachers may reach out to request volunteers to help tally laps and supervise students. We will share more information soon regarding our fundraising goal for the Terry Fox Society.
