Happy Friday Bayside Families!

Our traffic safety patrols started their duties this week and are excited to be providing this important service to the community. There are a few things we ask parents and students to be aware of when the patrols are on duty:

-          Drivers, please exercise patience and stop before entering the crosswalk intersection. Please wait for the patrols to whistle and tuck their stop signs behind their backs before moving into the intersection. Watching the patrols carefully and following their lead will ensure safety and allow traffic to flow more smoothly for everyone.

-          Pedestrians, please wait until the patrollers signal and say “Proceed” before entering the crosswalk. It is important for both students and adults to follow the patrollers’ directions, again, for everyone’s safety and to maintain smooth traffic flow.

-          Cyclists, scooters, etc. please remember to get off your bike/ scooter/ etc. and walk across the street. We also appreciate everyone walking their bikes and scooters on school property, especially during busy pick-up and drop-off times.

Thank you for doing your part to support our Patrols and keep everyone safe on the way to and from schoolJ

Updates/ Reminders:

Meet the Teacher: Meet the Teacher Conferences will be taking place on Thursday September 26 and Friday September 27:

              Thursday:           8:00AM-3:00PM (Kindergarten only)

                                           4:00PM-8:00PM (Kindergarten-Grade 5)

              Friday:                 8:00AM-12:00PM (Kindergarten-Grade 5)

Parents will sign up for an appointment with your child’s teacher through MyCBE Account. Online booking will be open to parents beginning Thursday September 19 at 4:00PM.

Meet the teacher is an excellent opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and to share important information with them about your child. Teachers will be able to share with you how your child is settling into school during the first weeks and the routines and expectations of the classroom. We encourage parents to bring your child with you to conferences so they can be part of the conversation. We look forward to building positive working relationships with our families in support of each child’s success at school.

Walking Field Trips: We are so lucky to be situated in a beautiful community with many pathways and a wetland area within a short walking distance. A slightly longer walk allows classes to visit the Calgary Public Library and YMCA in Seton. Bayside classes regularly spend time learning on the land throughout the year. Teachers will email at least a day before that they are planning a community walk within our ‘walking field trip’ area.

The CBE does not require parents to fill out a consent form for children to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school and where:

  • walking is the sole method of transportation, and
  • so long as the students will not be participating in a restricted activity as part of the trip.

This will allow teachers to take advantage of places close to the school such as parks or the library.

There is not a set limitation on distance for walking field trips. Principals give final approval on the distance and destination for a walking field trip.

Orange Shirt Day and National Day of Truth and Reconciliation: Staff and students will be taking time to learn about Truth and Reconciliation during the week leading up to National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (Monday September 30 is the holiday. There will be no school that day). We invite students, staff, and visitors to wear orange shirts for Bayside’s Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday October 1 where we will be reflecting together on our learning and the actions we have taken and will take to make a positive contribution.

Bayside School Council and Fundraising Association (BSFA): Our School Council and BSFA AGM is on Tuesday September 17 at 6:00 PM. We have a number of positions that will be open. Visit our Webpage for more information about School Council and Fundraising and how you can get involved.
