Happy Friday Bayside!
It was a beautiful second week of school! This week, I noticed a real focus on “getting to know you” in all of our classes and around the school. Students have been puzzling over the staff mystery board, trying to figure out which staff member carries a pink coffee cup everywhere they go and who has 18 chickens at home! On Thursday, students were challenged to find out more about their lunchroom supervisors. Ms. Prestayko and I have a unique opportunity at Bayside to get to know all of our students through “Team Time” when students in each grade group come to the gym and music room for team activities on a biweekly basis. Team Time allows Admin, Phys. Ed. And Music specialists to do special team-building activities with the students while their teachers have collaborative meeting time. From an administrator’s perspective, it allows me to connect with students and get to know them outside of the office😊
REMINDERS AND UPDATES:
Patrols
It’s happening! School Safety Patrols will be starting on Monday September 15 at the crosswalk on Auburn Springs Blvd. Please watch for our patrols on Monday as they will be out at 7:45-8:00 AM and 2:30-2:45 PM. Remember to follow their lead and wait until the say “proceed” before crossing the road. We are very fortunate to have patrols and appreciate how they not only improve safety for our pedestrians but also help to manage the traffic flow around the school.
Orange Shirt Day
Bayside School will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday September 24. We encourage students and staff to wear an orange shirt that day to show your support for truth and reconciliation. This year Bayside School will be focusing on Phyllis Webstad’s story, her resilience, and her message that every child matters.
Terry Fox Run
The Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday October 3 in the Bayside school field. Teachers may reach out to request volunteers to help tally laps and supervise students. We will share more information soon regarding our fundraising goal for the Terry Fox Society.
Dogs
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds. This is the City of Calgary Bylaw. Feel free to stand on the sidewalk and wave with your pet😊
