Happy Friday Bayside!
Another beautiful fall week at Bayside with so much exciting learning happening in all grades. Our grade 4 and 5 groups welcomed two new teachers, Ms. Moore and Ms. Singh, and transitioned to add two new classes to allow for more manageable class sizes. Thank you to our staff, parents, and students for helping this transition to go smoothly for our students. Next week will be an exciting week as well with both Diwali and Halloween on Thursday October 31, and our grade 5 classes will be hosting a sharing assembly on Friday November 1. See below for more detailed updates about what is to come:
Reminders and Updates:
Celebrations at Bayside: With over 25 different home languages spoken by families, Bayside is a wonderfully diverse school community. With this diversity comes the opportunity to learn about and celebrate many different cultures. At Bayside, we strive to recognize and learn about major holidays that are celebrated and valued by our students and families. These holidays include (but may not be limited to):
- Winter and Spring Solstices
- Remembrance Day
- Diwali
- Passover
- Hanukkah
- Ramadan and Eid
- Christmas
- Easter
- Halloween, Valentines Day
For our students who celebrate these special holidays, it is an opportunity to feel “seen” and to build a sense of belonging in our school. For students who do not celebrate these holidays, the opportunity is in building understanding and empathy towards their neighbours, friends, and classmates. If your family has a special holiday that you celebrate, but do not see listed here, please reach out to the office (bayside@cbe.ab.ca) or to your child’s classroom teacher to share with us. We would love to learn more!
October 31: October 31 will be an extra special day at Bayside this year with both Halloween and Diwali falling on the same day! This week, many classes will be learning about Diwali as well as engaging in Halloween and autumn-themed learning activities! Your teacher’s Instagram is an excellent place to see updates and photos of all the fun:)
Photos: School pictures are ready! To order, log in to your account on mylifetouch.ca or create an account using your student's student ID number. Paper proofs will also be sent to your home in the near future. All families can also log on and order a FREE digital Pictures2Protect Card. More about the Pictures2Protect program here.
Bootcamp Fundraiser Update: Thank you to Auburn Bay Fit Body Bootcamp for the fundraising opportunity. With 6 parents registering, Bayside will receive a $600 donation. We will be using the funds to support our Outdoor learning space project to help purchase materials and plantings to make the space even more beautiful for our students.
Grade 5 Learning Celebration: This year, each grade group will be hosting a learning celebration assembly for parents and other classes. On Friday November 1, our grade 5 classes will be hosting our first celebration of learning. There will be two assemblies (see below) and grade 5 parents are welcome to attend the one that fits best with your schedule.
- The first assembly will be from 9:30-10:30 for the Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2. (Doors will open at 9:20 AM)
- The second assembly will be from 10:45-11:45 for grades 3 and 4. (Parents are asked to allow the gym to empty before going in)
Fees: School Fees have now been added to MyCBE accounts. Please check your account regularly as fees may be added through the year for field trips and in-school activities. Parents are also reminded to register your child for lunchroom if they stay at school for lunch. Students who normally go home and are participating in a lunch time club are not required to pay for lunchroom.
Updates from School Council and BSFA:
Halloween Dance - Thank you to all the participants who attended the school dance on Friday night! And a HUGE thank you to all our volunteers, without you, these events would not be possible. We all had a fantastic time "Monster Mashing the night away with our Bayside Community! Through both ticket sales and snack shack proceeds, we were able to raise over $4000 for the school. These funds help support school initiatives, enhanced learning and will help to subsidize field trips in the future. Thanks again for you support!
Apples - The Delicious apples arrived and the 116 cases you ordered were picked up in a FLASH! We have had such fabulous feedback already about how delicious they are! Can’t wait for next year!
