Happy Friday Bayside!
We had a beautiful Remembrance Day assembly today with all of our students in the gym. Together we learned why we recognize Remembrance Day and had the opportunity to reflect, remember, and honour those who have made sacrifices to preserve our freedoms and peace in the world. Thank you to Mr. Do’s class for sharing their thoughtful acknowledgment of the land and to Ms. Curnew’s students for sharing some of your poems. The assembly ended with our whole school singing a song about Peace together. I believe we all left with our hearts very full.
REMINDERS & UPDATES:
Fall Break: A reminder to parents there is no school November 8-12 due to Fall Break. We look forward to seeing you again on Thursday November 13 when school resumes.
Veterans Food Drive: Our grade 2 classes are leading the way to help the Veterans’ Food Bank this year. Non-perishable food items will be collected between November 5-21 for the Veterans Food Bank. Suggested items include: soup, cereal, dry or canned beans, coffee, tea, powdered milk, pasta, pasta sauce, canned fish, crackers. Boxes are located throughout the school for students to drop off their items. Thank you for your donations!
Outdoor Learning Circle: If you have visited our school ground recently, you might have noticed some changes to our outdoor learning circle (the circle of boulders in our small field). Thanks to a grant from Tree Canada, we have had a number of new trees planted around the circle to provide shade and a natural barrier between the playground. Today the CBE landscaping team was busy installing the stepping stones we created at the end of last year to represent our community. In the spring, we plan to add plantings to the area just outside of the circle to further enhance the space. We are so excited to see our learning space take shape and look forward to having our students and staff make use of the space for outdoor learning.
Lunchtime Reminders: It seems that many of our students have returned to school hungrier than ever! Parents, please check in with your child to see if they are having enough to eat at school and if not, please send a few extra snacks. In addition, please remember to send your child with a fork and spoon if they require one.
Bayside Swag! Hoodies and T-shirts and Joggers and more! Our School Swag Store is now open until November 14th. The link to the store is https://baysideschoolspiritwear25.itemorder.com/shop/home/
Rock Your Mocks: Rock Your Mocs is an annual week-long campaign starting November 12 that promotes cultural pride by encouraging Indigenous peoples to share their stories through posting photos of and wearing their moccasins. It is a day we can all participate in and a positive opportunity to celebrate unity by wearing moccasins. We honor Indigenous peoples worldwide during Rock Your Mocs events.
If you have moccasins or traditional footwear you would like to wear to school please join us on November 14th to celebrate ROCK YOUR MOCS day.
