Happy Friday Bayside!

Bayside School Council and Bayside School Fundraising Association (BSFA) held the AGM this week and it was wonderful to see both experienced OG members and to welcome new parents to our group! The learning update this month highlighted field trips and in school experiences that enhance the learning of our students. It is important to recognize the role of volunteers in making special opportunities like these possible for Bayside students. In addition to the parents who help on field trips, the BSFA provides funding to subsidize field trips and in school experiences, reducing the overall cost for families.

BSFA is a small, but mighty group of parents and volunteers who organize fundraisers for Bayside school to be able to provide enhancements to our school programs on behalf of all students. For parents who may not be able to volunteer during the school day, joining our School Council and BSFA is another way to be involved and to support your child’s school experience. They meet once a month in the evening, on the second Tuesday of the month. In addition to supporting the school community and staying up to date on what is happening at Bayside, School Council and BSFA are a great opportunity to meet and get to know other parents. Our School Council and BSFA parents are some of the most generous, kind, and all around amazing people I know! There will not be a meeting in June so your next opportunity to join us will be in the fall on September 15, 2026.

UPDATES & REMINDERS

Acting Assistant Principal: Mr. Mike Hebenton, retired principal, will be joining us at Bayside beginning on Thursday May 21. Welcome Mike!

Transportation for 2026-27 School Year: It is time to register your child for school bus service for the 2026-27 school year.

Families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.

Grow Boxes: Exciting news! Thanks to the Farm to Cafeteria Canada grant, we have purchased two grow boxes to grow food at Bayside. Come check them out by the outdoor circle!

We are hoping to begin transplanting plants outside next week, if the weather permits. Students are excited to help care for the plants and watch our garden grow. We look forward to sharing this learning experience with our school community!

Sports Day: Bayside Sports Day is coming up on Friday, June 19, and we are looking for parent volunteers to help run activity stations!

Volunteering at a station is a fun way to support our students and be part of this exciting school event. No special experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help students have a great time.

If you are available, have a current CBE volunteer clearance, and are interested in volunteering, please sign up using the link below:

Thank you so much for your support—we truly appreciate your help in making Sports Day a memorable experience for all students!

Grade 1-3 Swimming: A reminder to parents to please return your student’s swimming forms as soon as possible. The YMCA would like swimming ability forms by May 15 so they can organize groups for lessons. The fee for swimming is $30 and is available in your MyCBE account for payment. If you have not yet received your child's swimming forms, please reach out to your child's teacher.

All of our volunteer slots are full! If you are interested in being a “back-up” volunteer, please email Ms. Cassan amcassan@cbe.ab.ca

Fees: Throughout the school year, fees are updated in parents’ MyCBE accounts. In addition to central fees such as Lunch Supervision, Student Supplies, and transportation, we also add school-based fees for various activities such as field trips or special in-school activities. Please check your MyCBE account regularly to pay any outstanding fees. If for any reason you are unable to pay a fee, please reach out to the school.
