Happy Friday Bayside!
Our Volunteer Tea was a resounding success with approximately 60 of our amazing volunteers attending. The theme this year was “Volunteers are TEA-riffic”! Our special guests were treated to treats and goodies provided by Bayside staff, musical performances by all grades (thanks to Mrs. McCune), and delightful artwork prepared by our students. A very special thank you to Mrs. Walker for baking and decorating incredible tea-cup cookies to send home with our volunteers. I would also like to thank Mr. Do’s and Mrs. MacKenzie’s students for the wonderful centerpieces they created and our grade 5 emcees and greeters. We also appreciate our Topp Kids friends for their flexibility in freeing up the gym before and after school to make set-up and clean-up possible. I was not able to attend today as I was at a mandatory Spring staffing meeting downtown so I would like to thank Mrs. Prestayko for giving a speech on behalf of all the staff and myself. Volunteers are truly the heart of our school and we appreciate and value each and every one of you!
UPDATES AND REMINDERS:
Library Resources for Kindergarten: The Calgary Public Library is excited to offer Kindergarten Book Bags for any family with a child registered to start kindergarten this fall. Beginning on May 1, families can visit their nearest Calgary Public Library location to pick up a FREE bag. Each keepsake tote is full of fun activities, helpful information, and library books to help children get ready for school. For more information on the Kindergarten Book Bag program or School Readiness video link or teacher resources for K-3, please visit the Calgary Public Library website.
Swimming! Parents of students in grades 1-3 please check your child’s backpack for swimming notices! The YMCA would like to have everyone’s swimming ability forms returned by May 14 in order to organize for lessons.
Grade 1-3 swimming lessons at Seton YMCA will take place June 1-4 and June 8-11. We will need at least 5-6 volunteers each day from 8:45 AM-11:45 AM. Parents who volunteer are not required to ride the bus back and forth to the school and YMCA (You are welcome to drive yourself to the Y if you wish). Parents will also stay dry (you do not need to enter the pool). You will help students with boarding and getting off the bus and will supervise students getting ready in the change rooms before and after lessons. We request that parents who volunteer plan to help all classes in the morning, not just your own child’s class. A current CBE volunteer clearance is required.
June 1-4: Dennis, Gannon, McNabb, Mumford, Finn, Hartmann, Mask, MacLellan
June 8-11: Barrow, Walker, MacKenzie, Fernandez, van Runt, Milburn

Save the Date: Our Grade 5 Farewell Celebration will be Thursday June 18 in the afternoon. As we have a large number of grade 5 students and limited gym capacity, please limit the number of guests per student to a maximum of 4. Invitations and more details for the celebration will be provided soon.
Grades 4 & 5 Spring Concerts: Along with the students and staff of Grade 4 and 5 Students at Bayside School, I would like to invite you to “Together a Forest” a concert based on the book by Roz MacLean. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their learning, be performers, and to come together as a community through music. There will be singing, instruments, and storytelling. Please check the email from Ms. McCune (sent April 17, 2026) for more information.
Friday, May 8
8:30 am: Grade 4
9:45 am: Grade 5
Hats on for Mental Health: This May 4-10, the Canadian Mental Health Association of Canada is inviting people across Canada to Come Together. It’s a call to spark small, everyday actions of connection, and to recognize the role we all play in supporting mental health through connection. On May 6, Bayside and schools across the CBE will recognize “Hats on for Mental Health” day. Bayside community is invited to wear your favourite hat to draw attention to the importance of positive mental health and connection in schools.
