Happy Friday Bayside Parents!
Our grade 5 classes had a special visit from Member of Parliament Tom Kmiec to speak about his role as an MP. The discussion was focused on ways students can learn about the world and take action for change. We often have special guest speakers visit our students to help make connections between the real world and Alberta curriculum and to strengthen our connections to the community. During our Read-a-thon, special guest readers are sharing a little bit about themselves and also sharing favourite books or books related to their work and our grade 2s are arranging for a visit from one of our local dental offices about dental health in the coming weeks. Thank you to Mr. Kmiec and all of our special guests who take the time to share their expertise and experience with our students!
UPDATES & REMINDERS:
A Note from Ms. Cassan: Phys. Ed. will be outside all week next week! Dress accordingly!
Student-Led Conferences: Bayside will be holding Student-Led Conferences on Thursday March 19 from 3:30 PM– 7:30 PM. Kindergarten Student-led conferences will take place on Thursday from 11:00-2:00 and from 4:00-7:30 pm. For all grades, this will be an opportunity for students to lead a discussion about how they perceive they are progressing in their learning. Students will be sharing their learning and reflecting on next steps. The value of this conference format is it empowers students to take ownership of their learning, giving them voice and self-awareness with respect to their development.
Teachers will be in the classroom and available for assistance in guiding and supporting conversations. When you attend your conference, there may be other families in the room at the same time as yours. If you require a formal/private conversation regarding your child’s learning, please contact your child’s teacher for a more appropriate meeting time.
Friday March 20 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM will be reserved for IPP meetings for grades 1-5. These conferences can take place in person or online. Teachers will reach out to families to book a time. (Kindergarten teachers will be inviting parents for IPP conversations between 8-10 AM on Thursday).
For our families who are celebrating Eid during conferences, please let your child’s teacher know if you are unable to attend and we will be happy to find another time for you and your child to have a student-led conference.
There will be no Kindergarten conferences on Friday. Ms. Sanderson will be available to speak with families of students she is working with for literacy intervention.
The Book Fair will be open on both Thursday evening and Friday morning. Families are welcome to attend the Book Fair either day.

Overflow Designation Changes for Mahogany School: Parents will have received a notice this week regarding overflow designation changes for Mahogany school. Although the notice stated “According to CBE records, you are living in Mahogany…” the notice appears to have been sent to all Bayside families, including those who live in Auburn Bay. Please note that the changes will not impact families who live in Auburn Bay and students currently attending Bayside school can remain at their school as long as they continue to live within the designated area.
Registration for 2026-27 School Year: We are currently processing new student registrations in SchoolEngage for the 2026-27 school year. Once your registration is processed, you should receive a confirmation email. No further action needs to be taken. If we are missing any forms or documentation, we will reach out to you.
AM and PM placement for Kindergarten will be communicated to families in May 2026 at the latest, once we have more information about our Kindergarten enrolment and the number of classrooms that will be available. If the number of requests for an AM placement exceeds the number of spaces we have available, we will conduct a draw. Families who do not receive their preferred placement will be added to a wait list and will be offered AM spots in the order of the draw as they become available. Families who have requested PM or who have indicated no preference will automatically be placed in PM Kindergarten.
Snack Shack: The Snack Shack was a great success today! Thank you to Mr. Corriveau’s class and for our amazing volunteers for running things so smoothly. Next week, on Friday March 13, the Snack Shack will be open for PM Kindergarten and grades 1, 3, &5. Click here for more details.
School Council: Our next School Council meeting is Tuesday March 10 at 6:00 PM. Mrs. McAsey will be sharing about our School Development Plan and School Fees and asking for parent feedback! We hope you can make it!
