Happy Spring Break Bayside!
We had an excellent turn-out to Learning Conferences this week! Thank you to all of our parents who made the time to come and meet with your child’s teacher. We know that we set our students up for the most success when home and school work together as a team. Ms. Walker will be reaching out to her families after Spring Break to schedule time for conferences. Thank you so much for your understanding.
Reminders/ Updates:
Snack Shack: Our grade 5 classes will be opening the Bayside Snack Shack on the morning of Friday April 5 and Friday April 12 to raise money for the grade 5 farewell at the end of the year. To ensure there is enough time for all classes to visit, the Snack Shack will be open to certain grades on certain days:
April 5: Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 classes
April 12: Kindergarten, grade 3, grade 4, grade 5
All sales will be cash only. Students will be limited to purchasing a maximum of 2 items and we ask that parents send a small amount of cash with your child (no more than $5) to ensure we are able to make change easily and also to minimize the risk of loss. Items for purchase will include:
Welch’s Fruit packs $0.50.
Bear Paws $1.50
Granola Bars (chocolate Caramel) $1.00
Rice Krispies $1.00
Applesauce $1.00
Goldfish $1.00
Thank you to Bayside School Fundraising Association and to all of the volunteers who have signed up to help with the Snack Shack!
Spring Staffing planning: As I shared at this week’s School Council meeting, spring staffing is underway. At this time of year, we begin our staffing for September 2024 using the information we have available. For the 2024-25 school year, Bayside will continue to serve the communities of Auburn Bay and Mahogany as the overflow school for Mahogany community. We are working in partnership with Mahogany school and our Area 5 Director to balance student numbers in both schools so we can provide quality education and keep our students as close to home as possible. Some families currently attending Bayside this year will have received (or will receive) a call with an invitation to attend Mahogany school next year. Both schools are wonderful places of learning and we encourage parents to make the choice that works best for you and your family. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
In April we will be making some preliminary decisions and plans in order to begin hiring staff for next year and then we will adjust our staffing in the fall once we have more certainty about how many students are actually enrolled in each grade. At the end of June all parents will receive a message from me, letting you know how many classes we expect in each grade. I will also share the names of our confirmed staff at that time. In August, after teachers have returned from summer break and prior to the first day of school, you will receive a welcome email from your child’s teacher.
Kindergarten Registration Update: Our office staff are currently processing the Kindergarten registrations in SchoolEngage. Parents can expect to receive an email in April to confirm that your registration has been processed. No further action needs to be taken. If we are missing any forms or documentation, we will reach out to you.
AM and PM placement will be communicated to families in May 2024, once we have more information about our Kindergarten enrolment and the number of classrooms that will be available. If the number of requests for an AM placement exceeds the number of spaces we have available, we will conduct a draw. Families who do not receive their preferred placement will be added to a wait list and will be offered AM spots in the order of the draw as they become available. Families who have requested PM or who have indicated no preference will automatically be placed in PM Kindergarten.
