Happy Friday Bayside!

I had such a good time visiting the grade 4 cardboard arcade in Mr. Do and Ms. Iafolla’s classrooms today. Students from other classes also got the chance to try out some games and learn a little bit about their design and building process. Students were able to tell me about the simple machines they incorporated into their designs and some of the challenges with the building process they encountered. Our grade 4 students will also benefit from an opportunity to have a STEM presentation connecting Science, technology and math to students’ real life experiences after Spring Break through Wood, an engineering and consulting firm. Thank you to Jacky Kwan, one of our amazing parents, for connecting us with this opportunity.

Reminders and Updates:

Lost and found: A reminder to parents to please come check the lost and found, particularly during conferences on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Teachers are also touring their classes though to ty to match students up with their belongings. We will be donating remaining items following conferences in order to start with a clean slate after Spring Break.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held on March 21 (4:00-8:00 PM) and 22 (8:00 AM-12:00 PM). Conference sign-up begins Friday, March 15 at 5:00 pm through your MyCBE account. Please plan to have your student attend the conference with you so they can be part of the conversation about their learning.

Spring has Sprung! Thank you for sending your children prepared to be outdoors each day. With our changing weather and fluctuating temperatures, a lot of melting has occurred around the school. While we do our best to discourage students from going in deep puddles, it is nearly impossible to completely avoid the mud. It can be helpful to send an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack, just in case.

Washroom Rumors: Our students have wonderful, if sometimes overactive, imaginations… It has come to our attention that some students have been spreading a rumor that some of our bathrooms are haunted. I can assure you, our bathrooms are very safe and definitely not haunted but some children are finding these rumors scary. If your child has expressed any worries about the bathroom at Bayside, please reassure them and let your child’s teacher know so we can support them at school. In classrooms where we know this rumor has spread (mostly our older classes), teachers have talked to their students to help ensure that all students feel safe at school. Thank you for supporting us with positive conversations at home.

School Council: Bayside School Council is looking for new members! Every parent and guardian is welcome to join our council meetings. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, get updates about what is happening at the school, and be part of giving feedback and participating in the decision-making to make Bayside an amazing place to learn. Our next meeting is in person at 6:00 PM n Tuesday March 19.

We will also be hosting a “Coffee with Council” On Wednesday April 3 at 8:15 AM (right after drop off). Come for some coffee, treats, and a chat in a more informal setting with members of council and our school administrators.

Scholastic Book Fair: Scholastic Book Fair is coming next week! Please do not send money with your child to school- all sales will occur with parents/ guardians during Parent Teacher Interviews. Click here for the details.
