Happy Friday Bayside!

We had an amazing Pink Shirt Day assembly this week. We were so fortunate to have The Hulagens, a band made up of students from Bayside and Lakeshore schools, do their very first live performance in our assembly. Thank you to the Anisimov family for reaching out to us with the idea and for all of your work in putting the show together. In addition to the band, we enjoyed poetry from Ms. Van Runt’s grade 4 students, a video of kindness in action at Bayside school, and the whole school sang “Count on Me” together. It was definitely a Pink Shirt Day to remember.

Updates and Reminders:

Learning Intervention: Ms. Blackman is ready to go with learning intervention for students in grades 2 and 3. Due to substitute shortages this week, our planned intervention schedule was delayed. Thank you to Ms. Blackman for her flexibility in covering classes!  She was a superstar this week.

We will have two rounds of intervention groups. Round 1 (Grades 2 and 3) will go from now until April 19th and Round 2 (Grades 1, 4, & 5) will take place from April 29-June 20. We may adjust this timeline if we continue to experience disruption due to substitute shortages. In collaboration with our classroom teachers, Ms. Blackman will support students with foundational literacy and English language skills through targeted small group instruction.

Ms. Blackman will be sending letters home to parents of the grade 2 and 3 students who will be working with her this round. Once you receive your letter, parents are welcome to reach out to her with questions. Her email address is sjblackman@cbe.ab.ca.

Snowshoeing: Ms. Cassan has borrowed snowshoes from Andrew Sibbald school and we are excited to provide this opportunity to our students next week. Please ensure that your child comes prepared for outdoor play each day. There is no need for specialized equipment but coat, snow-pants, toque, and mittens will keep your child warm for the duration of the activity. A reminder that the temperature can change significantly through the day so please send your child prepared, even if the temperature is below -20 in the morning as we anticipate we will have classes outside for at least part of the day.

Learn and Share: Please take a few minutes to complete our school planning survey. The survey is open until March 11.

Storm Pond Safety: Keep you and your family safe this winter by staying off community storm ponds.

Even if the ice looks frozen solid, conditions are still dangerous. Unlike a normal pond, water levels are constantly changing which creates unstable air gaps between the ice and water. Plus, water in these ponds contains sediment and contaminants, which weaken the ice.

Instead, find a safe City or community outdoor skating rink near you at Calgary.ca/rinks

Lost and Found: The Bayside lost and found is overflowing again. Teachers will be visiting the lost and found with their students this week to try to help them identify their items. If parents would like to come check the lost and found, please come to the office and let the ladies know and you are very welcome to take a look.
