Happy Friday Bayside!

Our teachers were busy this afternoon working on report cards and IPPs as well as preparing for the next week and all of the exciting activities coming up. There is so much great work happening in all of our classes and we are grateful as we reflect on the growth that we have seen this year.

This time of year is so busy for families with sports and evening/weekend activities. There are late nights and early mornings and sometimes it seems like the days blend into one another. This is your reminder to take time for yourselves this weekend! We are all at our best when we are re-charged. The next few weeks will be busy, and they will be amazing.

REMINDERS & UPDATES:

Bayside Staff update: Mr. Hebenton has had a change of plans and will no longer be able to return to Bayside before the end of the school year. Instead, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Chris Aylesworth as acting Assistant Principal until the end of the school year.

Swimming Week 2: Reminder to families in the following classes to ensure your child is ready for swimming lessons next week! Check out our website for helpful tips for a successful week of swimming: https://bayside.cbe.ab.ca/news/swimming-june-1-4-june-8-11

Classes swimming this week: Barrow, Walker, MacKenzie, Fernandez, van Runt, Milburn

Thank you to Mrs. Cassan for all of her work organizing swimming lessons for our students, to the parent volunteers who helped make swimming lessons possible, and to the BSFA for paying for the swimming buses to reduce the overall cost for families!

Kona Ice Treat: Each year, the BSFA uses proceeds from Healthy Hunger to provide a special treat for Bayside students. This year, Kona Ice will be coming to visit on Thursday June 11 to bring their icy deliciousness to our students! Each of our students will receive a small shaved ice treat. Thank you to School Council and BSFA for this delightful treat!

Bridge Summer Camp: For families looking for summer programs, one of our partner organizations, Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, is offering a three-week program (Mon - Thurs) open to all students in Grades 1-9. There are two sessions offered: July 6-22 and July 27-Aug 13. The registration link is: https://pci.jotform.com/form/261394134148255

Grade 5 Farewell: We are excited to welcome the families of our Grade 5 students to celebrate with us on June 18, 2026 1:00-2:15 PM. Your teacher will send you an invitation. Doors will open at 12:45 PM. The Assembly will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by light refreshments for grade 5s and their guests. See the invitation HERE.

*We ask that families limit guests to no more than 4 people.

Sports Day: We can also use 2-3 more volunteers for sports day on Friday June 19th.

Transportation Reminder: Families are now able to apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. Service levels and fees are outlined on the CBE website. Registration is available through your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how.)

Families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August. Click here for more information

Sunscreen and Bug Spray: We are so happy our families are being sun smart! We do have a request… please do not send aerosol or spray-type sunscreens or bug sprays to school. If you would like your child to reapply sunscreen during the day, we request that you send them with a small bottle of lotion-type sunscreen that they can apply independently. Spray sunscreens or bug sprays can damage the surfaces in our school and it is too challenging for staff to monitor and supervise application (especially with the spray bottles) while also supervising our students’ learning and play. A hat and a light, long sleeve shirt are also great for sun/ bug protection. Thanks again!

Lost and Found: Our Lost and Found is overflowing! Classes will be touring the lost and found over the coming weeks to try to match students up with their belongings. Parents are encouraged to come check the lost and found as well… please just check in at the office and we are happy to have you take a look! Items remaining at the end of June will be donated to Good Will so we can have a fresh start in the fall.
