Happy Friday Bayside!

It was a week to remember at Bayside! On Monday, we kicked things off with all students attending a performance of “The Suitcase Circus”, performed by one of our amazing parents, Christopher Gamble. The show was fun and interactive and many of our students had the opportunity to be part of the show. Christopher will be performing his show at the Edmonton Fringe Festival this August so we were fortunate to get a sneak peek.

On Thursday, we celebrated our grade 5 students’ last year at Bayside and wished them well as they move on to new adventures in Middle School. Thank you to Ms. McCune for an AMAZING performance of “High Hopes”, and to our teachers for their heart-felt speeches to their students. We also want to share a huge thank you to our BSFA for providing funds to support the celebration and to our grade 5 farewell parent committee for arranging for the delicious treats and the fabulous decorations.

Today, Friday June 21, we had a beautiful Indigenous People’s day with classes participating in a variety of activities through the day. We were fortunate to welcome Jaadaas Jagwaa, a Bayside parent, who shared story and elements of dance and culture with each of the grade groups. We will be sharing the collaborative art project we made together next week.

Each year, in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Bayside School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, and renews our own commitment to action.  We invite you to read our renewed commitment for the 2024-25 school year here.

Updates and Reminders:

Traffic and Pedestrian Safety: This is an important reminder to our community to prioritize the safety of our students and families over convenience. This morning there was a near-miss incident in our crosswalk where one of our families was very nearly hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. Please slow down and watch for pedestrians, particularly during the very busy morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.

We also remind parents that the bus zone is a NO PARKING zone for vehicles and is reserved for buses only. Parking in the bus zone is a safety hazard for our students and bus drivers and can also result in delays to our bus students getting home safely. If you are running late, please just give our office a call and we will make sure your child waits safely in the office until you can find a spot near the school or in a nearby street.

Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.

Stampede School Parade: Our grade 1 students have been working hard to design parade floats illustrating their learning at Stampede School. They will be having a parade to show off their floats on Monday, June 24 at 2:00 PM around the school. Classes and grade 1 parents will be standing along the parade route to cheer them on!

Thank you for the Appreciation! We want to share an enormous THANK YOU to our parent community for the gift cards that were collected for Bayside staff at the end of the year. It means so much to us to be thought of and appreciated by our community. A special thank you to Andrea Kletchko for organizing the efforts and for leading teacher appreciation the last two years. We appreciate you!

Sports Day reminder: Bayside Sports Day is on June 26 and we still need some volunteers! More information and a link to sign up to volunteer HERE.

Library Books now past due:  A reminder to return your library books before the summer!

Report Cards: Our teachers have begun work on report cards for the final term this year. You can find information HERE about how to view your child’s report card online, once it is available June 26, 2024.

Transportation: Even if you missed the June 16 deadline, it is important to register for bus transportation for the 2024-25 school year.

School Fees: As the school year is almost over, please make sure to log in and check your MyCBE account as you may have fees still outstanding. New fees are added throughout the year which include: field trips. You may also have lunch supervision fees outstanding. You can make partial payments if needed or apply for a waiver online. Please call our office (403-817-3436) or send us an email (bayside@cbe.ab.ca) if you have questions about fees.

School Council and BSFA News:

As we enter into the last week of the school year, Bayside Council would like to take a moment to Thank all the Teachers, Support Staff, Parents, Volunteers and especially the Students for a wonderful year at Bayside!

This past week, we said good-bye to our Grade 5 graduates on Thursday. We are so sad to see them go, but we wish this great group of kids a beautiful journey into middle school. On Tuesday, we will be celebrating our sweet kindergarteners for their year End Celebration as well!

Bayside Council is proud to support these students for their final celebrations.

We are also proud to support Sports Day and are giving out another sweet treat to all of our sweet Bayside students! Freezies are on us!

We also want to thank all the Parents for your continued support in fundraising for our school. We wouldn’t be able to do all these wonderful things for our kids, without your support. Thank you!
