Happy Friday Bayside!

Whew! What an incredible week at Bayside. On Tuesday, we were thrilled to have a visit by the 2025 Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess, Pacey Strangling Wolf. Her Blackfoot name is Otsskoiikitstakaii, meaning “Blue Offering Woman”. She met with all of our students first in the gym, introducing herself in her Blackfoot language, then sharing a little bit about herself and Treaty 7. Classes then had an opportunity to meet with her in the Learning Commons in smaller groups to ask questions. She was incredibly gracious and well-spoken and a wonderful role model for our students.

On Thursday we had our Grade 5 Farewell. It was a beautiful and heartfelt celebration! I would like to share our sincere gratitude to the Parent Committee and our grade 5 teachers for making the celebration so special. The theme was “Dreamers and stars” and our grade 5 students performed the song “Dreamers” by Jungkook and Fahad Al Kubaisi. As a group, they wrote one of the verses and I would like to share it with you:

Look how far we’ve come we’ve filled our hearts and minds with love, we are ready.

Friends and family, teachers, faith, they guide us, inspire and support … they help us grow.

We are strong, we are kind, we get through the tough times. We will be our best selves, show the world how we shine.

We believe in the future, want all to succeed, we will bravely move forward. Look who we are!

Today, we capped off an awesome week with our Stampede themed Pancake Breakfast and Sports Day! Thank you to School Council and BSFA for providing the terrific pancake breakfast to start our day and to all of the excellent volunteers who braved the elements and helped us put on a Sports Day to rival the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth! I would like to extend a special thanks to Ms. Cassan who planned an awesome event and navigated the ups and downs of a constantly changing weather forecast. I would also like to say a special thank you to Jaadaas Jagwaa, a member of our school community, for bringing so many wonderful Indigenous artifacts and items to share with us. It was a Sports Day to remember!
