Happy Friday Bayside!

We had a fantastic two days with Elder Hal Eagletail. We met with him at the site of our soon-to-be-constructed outdoor classroom and naturalization space. Every class was incredibly respectful and came to the circle with wonderful curiosity and questions. Key lessons from our time with Hal included:

-        Show care and respect for the earth… it gives us life!

-        Play in the dirt and mud every day to help your body to be strong

-        Be like the Lynx and wash your hands and clean yourself when you come inside

-        Be kind and respectful to others, and if you make a mistake, make sure your apology comes from your heart

-        Focus on your learning at school so that you can grow to be a leader

Many classes also enjoyed a song and drumming with Hal during their time with him. We were pleased to give him a gift of a beautiful painting representing Bayside School Community. We are so excited to see our naturalization space and outdoor classroom become a reality in the next few weeks. CBE landscaping will begin hardscaping and construction on the project in late June or early July. Next school year we will continue our work on the space by adding artwork and plantings.

Reminders & Updates:

Sports Day: Bayside Sports Day will take place on Wednesday June 26th. We are pleased to welcome back the grade 8 team from Lakeshore School who will be helping to run the stations. Parent volunteers are needed for the morning from approximately 8:30 AM-12:00 PM to help with set-up, supervising stations, take-down, and the distribution of freezies. All students will have an indoor lunch that day to allow for the activities outside to take place (and also to give students a bit of a rest on a very active day. In the afternoon, students will be taking part in some fun activities with their classroom teachers.

Please click the link below to sign up for volunteering. We are hoping for at least 2 volunteers per class. If you would like to volunteer and your child’s “class” is full, please feel free to click another class and enter your name.

Suitcase Circus: We are pleased to share that one of our parents, Christopher Gamble, will be performing his show, “Suitcase Circus”, for Bayside students on Monday June 17. The show will be a fun and interactive theatre experience about overcoming obstacles and finding resilience within ourselves.

Grade 5 Farewell: Our grade 5 team and parent farewell committee have been busy planning a lovely farewell event for our grade 5 students. Parents of grade 5 students are asked to limit your guests to no more than 2-4 people per family. If you are able, we encourage families to arrange for childcare of younger siblings to allow you and your grade 5 student to fully enjoy the event. Due to limited gym capacity, the assembly will be for grade 5 students and their parents. Siblings who are students at Bayside will remain in classes and will have other opportunities to wish the grade 5s well.

From the Learning Commons: We are nearing the end of library visits for another year.  Students will visit one final time during the week of June 10.  Leading up to this deadline, there has been a concentrated effort to ensure that students are returning books on a weekly basis.

As well, an inventory of the entire collection has been scheduled for June 21.  To accommodate this process, ALL books need to be returned by June 17.

Books that are not returned by June 17 are assumed lost.  The replacement cost of the book will be included on a student’s on-line account for payment.  This also pertains to books damaged beyond repair.  If the book is found after June 17, it can still be returned to the library and the fee will be removed.  If the payment creates a hardship for your family, please contact either Darby McAsey or Calleigh Harder in the office (403.817.3436 or email bayside@cbe.ab.ca).

Report Cards: Our teachers have begun work on report cards for the final term this year. You can find information HERE about how to view your child’s report card online, once it is available June 26, 2024.

Transportation: A reminder to Mahogany parents to register for bus transportation for the 2024-25 school year before June 16.

School Fees: As the school year is almost over, please make sure to log in and check your MyCBE account as you may have fees still outstanding. New fees are added throughout the year which include: field trips. You may also have lunch supervision fees outstanding. You can make partial payments if needed or apply for a waiver online. Please call our office (403-817-3436) or send us an email (bayside@cbe.ab.ca) if you have questions about fees.

School Council BSFA News:

Bayside School Council would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all of our amazing volunteers who have filled instrumental roles in the Council this year and last. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to some of our most dedicated volunteers and wanted to take a moment to let them know how grateful we are for all their contributions.

Natalie Strain (our former social media guru), Andrea Kletchko (our teacher appreciation coordinator), Randa Salem (our vice chairperson of fundraising, social media whiz and Healthy Hunger coordinator) and Jacky Kwan (our co-playground coordinator and general “willing to help out at anytime” guy) will all be moving on in various directions. We wish them all the best of luck at their new schools and with future endeavours. The hole you leave behind in the Bayside School Council will be tough to fill. We miss you already.

Annual AGM: Mark your calendars for the Bayside School Council and Fundraising Association AGM on Tuesday September 19 at 6:00 PM. For information about the executive positions that will be available, click here.
