Happy Friday Bayside!
Another exciting week has wrapped up at Bayside! Thank you to the BSFA and School council for the fun Kona Ice treat on Thursday. Even though the weather was a little grey, the energy was definitely all sunshine and excitement! We have more important and exciting events coming up this week with grade 4 and 5 track and field day, grade 5 farewell, and Sports Day! It is going to be a week to remember😊
REMINDERS & UPDATES:
Class Size Reduction Grant: We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated one additional teaching position for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
Traffic Safety: I received an email from a concerned parent about an incident where their oldest child was hit by a car backing out of a driveway at approximately 3:00 PM this week. Thankfully, the child is relatively ok but it is an important reminder for everyone to be extremely cautious, especially in a school zone. With springtime upon us, more students and families are walking and riding bikes/ scooters to school so please remember to prioritize safety over convenience.
Safety Tips for pedestrians and drivers can be found on our “Getting to School” page. To report traffic violations or request traffic service (e.g. police presence to monitor traffic speed), visit the City of Calgary Website: https://www.calgary.ca/cps/traffic/traffic-service-requests.html
Indigenous Peoples Day: June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day! Bayside will be recognizing this on June 22 with a variety of activities celebrating the four domains: Spirit, heart, body, and mind. We look forward to celebrating Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing together and students will have the opportunity to share their learning through a collaborative art piece.
Kona Ice Treat: Each year, the BSFA uses proceeds from Healthy Hunger to provide a special treat for Bayside students. This year, Kona Ice will be coming to visit on Thursday June 11 to bring their icy deliciousness to our students! Each of our students will receive a small shaved ice treat. Thank you to School Council and BSFA for this delightful treat!
Bridge Summer Camp: For families looking for summer programs, one of our partner organizations, Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, is offering a three-week program (Mon - Thurs) open to all students in Grades 1-9. There are two sessions offered: July 6-22 and July 27-Aug 13. The registration link is: https://pci.jotform.com/form/261394134148255
Grade 5 Farewell: We are excited to welcome the families of our Grade 5 students to celebrate with us on June 18, 2026 1:00-2:15 PM. Your teacher will send you an invitation. Doors will open at 12:45 PM. The Assembly will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by light refreshments for grade 5s and their guests. See the invitation HERE.
*We ask that families limit guests to no more than 4 people.
Sports Day: We can also use 2-3 more volunteers for sports day on Friday June 19th.

Transportation Reminder: Families are now able to apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. Service levels and fees are outlined on the CBE website. Registration is available through your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how.)
Families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.
Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August. Click here for more information
Sunscreen and Bug Spray: We are so happy our families are being sun smart! We do have a request… please do not send aerosol or spray-type sunscreens or bug sprays to school. If you would like your child to reapply sunscreen during the day, we request that you send them with a small bottle of lotion-type sunscreen that they can apply independently. Spray sunscreens or bug sprays can damage the surfaces in our school and it is too challenging for staff to monitor and supervise application (especially with the spray bottles) while also supervising our students’ learning and play. A hat and a light, long sleeve shirt are also great for sun/ bug protection. Thanks again!
Lost and Found: Our Lost and Found is overflowing! Classes will be touring the lost and found over the coming weeks to try to match students up with their belongings. Parents are encouraged to come check the lost and found as well… please just check in at the office and we are happy to have you take a look! Items remaining at the end of June will be donated to Good Will so we can have a fresh start in the fall.
