Happy Friday Bayside Families!

It was a busy week at Bayside! In addition to classroom learning, many grade 4 and 5 clubs took place at lunchtime, our grade 1 classes enjoyed a special presentation on Dental Health, and Mucho Burrito fun lunch was a hit! January and February are also a time of intensive assessment for our staff. Kindergarten- grade 3 teachers are beginning Early Learning Screening Assessments and all teachers are preparing for report cards which will be shared with parents beginning on February 24.

Save the Date: Pink Shirt Day is coming in February and our grade 4 classes will be hosting a Pink Shirt Day assembly on Thursday February 26. Grade 4 parents will be invited to join us at either a morning (8:30 AM) or afternoon (1:45 PM) assembly. Students are invited to wear pink to show their support for a welcoming and inclusive school community. This year’s theme is “Sprinkle Kindness”, a playful reminder that kindness grows when it is shared. (Pink Shirt Day is actually on February 25 but Bayside will  be recognizing it on February 26 as one of our classes is away on a field trip on the 25th)

Your Voice Matters: Parents of students in grade 4 at Bayside school will be receiving an invitation from Alberta Education (via mail) to participate in the annual Assurance survey. The information gathered from the survey helps to shape our priorities in the School Development Plan. Grade 4 students and teachers will also participate in the survey. More information about the Alberta Assurance Survey can be found here: https://bayside.cbe.ab.ca/news/your-voice-matters-share-your-thoughts-on-alberta-schools

Bayside Valentines: Since February 14 is a non-instructional day, Families are welcome to send valentines to school on Wednesday February 11 but are not required to do so. Our classes will be emphasizing kindness and friendship and the focus will be on student learning and belonging. The specific activities will be at the teacher’s discretion.

Some general guidelines to ensure our students have a positive experience:

-          If you choose to send Valentines to school, please send enough cards for each child in the class. Teachers will let you know how many students to plan for.

-          Please consider addressing Valentines “To my friend”, rather than specific names. This allows for much more efficient and manageable handing out of the cards, especially for our younger students. Teachers will not send class lists home.

-          As on a regular day, please send a healthy snack for your child. We will not be having class parties with shared treats.

-          If you would like to include a small treat in your Valentines, please consider sending a non-food treat such as fun erasers, pencils, stickers, etc. Candy treats will be sent home with students at the end of the day to be eaten at home.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
