January 17 Parent Message

Happy Friday Bayside!

Since returning from Winter Break, teachers have been focusing on Assessment and reporting and preparing report cards for the end of the month. The report card is one way teachers will communicate with you about your child’s learning and progress mid-way through the year. Information about the reporting process can be found on the CBE Website.

In addition to report cards, teachers in Kindergarten- grade 3 are currently conducting universal screening assessments in literacy and numeracy with all students. Universal screeners are assessments that measure a learner’s proficiency in different skills. They do not replace day-to-day teacher observations and classroom assessment and do not have any impact on formal reporting processes such as report cards. Rather, the results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps such as targeted interventions or instructional planning and are not used to determine grades. At Bayside, we will use the information gathered from the Universal Screeners to monitor our progress towards goals identified in our School Development Plan and to help identify students who may require additional intervention. Parents are encouraged to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
