Happy Friday Bayside!
Our Learning Commons is sparkling this week with artwork representing so many exciting learning opportunities. Ms. Finn’s class created beautiful sculptures of Olympic athletes in action which are sitting on top of the shelves. Mr. Do’s class has designed masks that are on display in the windows. When she visited, Carolyn Fisher, author and artist, drew wonderful portraits of some of our students which are hanging up on the glass wall next to the gathering space. There is also a collaborative mosaic art piece that has been growing and changing over the last month to celebrate Black History month through the colourful art of Alma Thomas. We are so appreciative of our students and teachers who are willing to share their learning in this way. It helps us to create a vibrant, student-centred learning space for our community.
REMINDERS and UPDATES:
Pink Shirt Day Assembly: Our Pink Shirt Day Assembly will be hosted by our grade 4 classes on Thursday February 26. This is also a grade 4 sharing assembly and grade 4 parents are invited to attend. Please note that the times I shared with you previously were incorrect… the correct times for the assemblies are 9:30 AM or 1:30 PM. Both assemblies will be identical so grade 4 parents can choose the time that works best for you. All Bayside students are invited to wear pink!
Report Cards: Report cards will be viewable in MyCBE Accounts beginning on Tuesday February 24. This report card is part of our ongoing communication of student achievement and will summarize the learning that has taken place over the course of this reporting period. Helpful information about assessment and reporting is available on the CBE website.
Carolyn Fisher Author Visit: Author Carolyn Fisher visited with all Bayside classes this week on February 17 and 18. She shared some of her wonderful books with us and we learned about her creative process as an artist and author. She even created live portraits of some of our students which are currently decorating our learning commons. I know many of our students were inspired by her visit. A huge THANK YOU to BSFA for providing the funds to make this experience possible for our students.
Swimming: Bayside students in grades 1-3 will be participating in swimming lessons between June 1-11. In preparation, the fee of $30 for swimming lessons has been posted to MyCBE Accounts. We appreciate parents paying this fee in a timely manner as we are required to pay for the pool rental at the end of March. Thank you to BSFA for subsidizing the cost of swimming lessons for our families by providing the bus transportation.
