Hello Bayside Community!
Teachers’ and Support Staff Conventions take place on Thursday and Friday of this week. Our educators will be taking time to further develop their skills, learn new strategies, and bring fresh ideas back into the classroom. We are excited about connecting with other educators and professionals and to come back to Bayside with a fresh outlook!
With the Family Day holiday on Monday February 17, we would also like to wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable time together. We hope you have the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, recharge, and appreciate the importance of quality time spent with those who matter most.
Updates and Reminders:
Save the Date(s) for Swimming! We have confirmed swimming lessons for students in grades 1-3 during the weeks of April 28-May 2 and May 5-9 at the Seton YMCA. Thank you to BSFA who has agreed to pay for bus transportation so families will pay only for the lessons themselves. We will need many volunteers from approximately 8:45 AM-11:30 AM (no swimming required) to make this work, both Male and Female to support change rooms. Valid CBE Police Clearance required.
April 28-May 2: Grades 1 and 2
May 5-9: Grades 2 and 3
Save the Date(s) for Spring Concerts! Ms. McCune and our wonderful students are busy preparing to entertain you with song and story this spring! During concert week, we will be holding two concerts each evening featuring different grade groups to accommodate as many families as possible within our limited gym capacity. The concert schedule will be as follows:
Tues March 11: 6PM Kindergarten, 7PM Grade 3
Wed March 12: 6PM Grade 1, 7PM Grade 4
Thurs March 13: 6PM Grade 2, 7PM Grade 5

Learn and Share- School Planning: Your feedback is important. We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees. Please take the time to learn about Bayside School Planning and fill out the online survey. Click Here.
Next Year Grade 6 Students: We have had some questions from parents regarding grade 6 registration for next year. Here is what you need to know:
- Lakeshore school is at capacity so they will be doing the lottery this week on Feb. 12. All students who are in grade 5 and currently attending Bayside are automatically in the lottery (with all the rest of our grade 5s who live in the area). There is nothing that parents need to do.
- Next week, you should receive an email letting you know if your student will be designated to Lakeshore or to Nickle School. Last year about half of our students went to each school. Make sure that your contact information is up to date.
- Once that happens, we will automatically designate our grade 5 students to their appropriate middle school for next school year. Additional information about open houses, registration for transportation, etc. will be shared with families over the coming months as it is available.
- If your family has moved or is planning to move, let us know (email bayside@cbe.ab.ca) and we will help you connect with your new designated school.

Pink Shirt Day: February 26 is Pink Shirt Day. We invite students, staff and visitors to wear pink to celebrate kindness and show that we stand against bullying! Our grade 1 classes will be hosting our Pink Shirt Day assembly and sharing their learning. Grade 1 parents are invited to join us at either 8:30 AM or 1:45 PM to participate in the assembly with our students.
