Happy Friday Bayside!
It was an exciting week at Bayside! On Tuesday, we hosted a Coffee with Council in the staffroom and had a wonderful turn-out of parents representing all grades and diverse experiences within our community. Thank you to the parents who attended. Some of the topics of conversation were:
- Traffic and pedestrian safety near Bayside School (Check out @baysideschoolcommunity on Instagram for ways you can help)
- Parent appreciation of Bayside’s inclusive approach and support of all students
- How to find out about Volunteer opportunities at Bayside (see new “Volunteer Opportunities” section below!)
- Clubs at Bayside
- Expanding arts and performing arts programming at Bayside
- Upcoming events: April 18 Spring Fling, Healthy Hunger, current fundraisers, etc.
We hope to see many of you again at our next Council meeting on April 16 at 6:00PM. Everyone is welcome!
Friday this week was particularly exciting with many special visitors and our grade 5 students running the Snack Shack for the first time. Thank you to Constables Tess and Brad for coming to talk to our grade 1 classes about how they support and keep our community safe. We were also very grateful to the team from Wood Consulting and Engineering who presented to our grade 4 students about how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is present in the real world. The students were excited to hear about how Minecraft is similar to the applications designers and engineers use to create real projects. Making community connections supports our students as learners and as community members. Thank you to our parents and teachers for seeking out these experiences for our students.
Updates and reminders:
Partial Eclipse Mon. Apr. 8: Please read this messaging from the Calgary Board of Education regarding the partial solar eclipse visible in Calgary on Monday, April 8. On Monday, due to the timing of the eclipse, students in grades 3-5 will be having an indoor lunch. Teachers will ensure that students have opportunities for outdoor play during the hours before and after the solar event (prior to 11:50AM and after 2:00PM).
Grade 5 Snack Shack: Our first Grade 5 Friday Snack Shack was a big success. Thank you to the volunteers who helped to stock up and run the Snack Shack with the students. Our students were very professional and organized which helped things to run smoothly. This is an opportunity for our grade 5 students to raise money to support the Grade 5 Farewell celebration at the end of the school year and is also a wonderful way to build in financial literacy learning in a very authentic way. Next Friday April 12, students in Kindergarten and grades 3-5 will have a chance to visit the Snack Shack. Please watch for a reminder from your teacher and visit our Website for details.
Club updates: Round 2 of grade ¾ Floor hockey and a new grade 1 Art Club are starting up next week. Check out the Clubs page on our Website for details.
Book Fair Update: Bayside had another very successful Book Fair. All the details are wrapped up, and we are happy to report:
- we realized $9,743 in sales
- because this was our 2nd Book Fair, we received a bonus 10% of our sales in immediate book purchases
Thank you to the families who purchased books for our classroom wish lists. We are so appreciative of your generosity and the titles purchased will be well used in our classroom libraries.
Volunteer Opportunities: We are in need of a few more volunteers for Healthy Hunger coming up on Thursday April 11 (8:30-10:30 AM). Please click below to sign up:
