Happy Friday Bayside!

So many exciting things happened this week, it is hard to know what to focus on! All classes celebrated Earth Day with our grade 5s leading the way with a community clean-up. Our grade 2 classes welcomed mystery eggs to their classrooms and are eagerly waiting to see what will hatch. Many of our grade 4 students began their Patrol training to prepare for grade 5 Safety Patrols. We celebrated Support Staff Appreciation Week, honouring the incredible support staff at Bayside.

We finished off an awesome week by welcoming Volunteers to our third annual Volunteer Tea today. Our committee decided on a “Bee” theme which was great fun and also aligned with Earth Day on April 22. Our students learned about pollinators and created beautiful spring time and bee-themed art. There may have been a few bee puns shared during the festivities. Much like bees, those amazing garden helpers, our dedicated volunteers play a vital role in helping our school community to thrive. Their hard work, generosity, and support are the pollinating force that help make Bayside a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Updates and Reminders:

Election Day, Monday April 28:  Bayside School will be a polling station on Monday April 28 for the federal election. We are expecting a high voter turn-out and it is possible there will be line-ups beside the school. As this is a regular instructional day, we have had to make some adjustments to our regular routines to ensure things run smoothly for everyone.

On Monday, voters will be entering the gym via Door D. Doors D and E will not be in use for students. We ask that students in grades 2 and 3, as well as Mr. Corriveau’s grade 5 class enter the school in the morning through the FRONT ENTRANCE. After school, grade 2 and 3 teachers will bring their classes outside to meet parents and caregivers in the small field near the outdoor learning space (the circle of boulders next to our playground). All other grades/ classes will enter and exit the school as per their normal routine.

Families should expect that parking will be at a premium on April 28 as Elections Canada workers and voters will be seeking to find a parking spot near the school. We strongly encourage parents and caregivers to give yourselves a few extra minutes on Monday morning and after school. Planning to park a short distance from the school and walk your child to their door will help to start your day off right!

Swimming: Our first week of swimming at Seton YMCA begins on Monday April 28! All swimming forms should have been returned to your child’s teacher. If you have not yet paid for lessons, you can do so online through MyCBE Account. A confirmation email was sent to volunteers this week (There is one volunteer spot left on May 6, see below to sign up!). Thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up to help! If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. McAsey djmcasey@cbe.ab.ca.

A few reminders to help everyone have a fun and successful week of swimming:

-        Send your child dressed with their bathing suit underneath their school clothes and underwear packed in their swimming bag

-        Please provide a specific swimming bag other than their backpack as backpacks will stay at school.

-        Send a labelled large zip lock bag for your child’s wet bathing suit.

-        Send a towel.

-        EpiPens & Inhalers should be packed in their swim bag (or in your child’s fanny pack if they normally wear one).

-        Please label every single item with your child’s name.

-        Please remind your child to not bring valuables or any unnecessary items to the pool such as water bottles as there are water fountains available.

-        Practice getting changed at home, as your child should be able to change independently.
