Happy Friday Bayside!

Teachers participated in meaningful learning today for Maatoomsii’ Pookaiks (Children First) System Indigenous Professional Learning Day. Our work was centred around our TRC commitment, specifically “To advance understanding of truth and reconciliACTION with students, staff, and families focused on learning about Indigenous circle processes and incorporating talking circles as a way of facilitating discussions with and amongst students, staff, and families.” Learning about traditional circle processes builds cultural understanding within our community; these processes also create and reinforce opportunities to learn and practice respectful discourse, idea sharing, and active listening. We had planned to be out on the land for the day but the weather had other ideas so we spent the day together at Bayside. Thank you to Ms. Prestayko, Ms. Finn, Mr. Corriveau, and Ms. Morden for planning for and leading us in our learning!

REMINDERS AND UPDATES:

Swimming! Parents of students in grades 1-3 should watch for swimming notices coming home mid-next week!

Our Grade 1-3 classes will have the opportunity to participate in Swimming lessons at Seton YMCA June 1-4 and June 8-11 We will need at least 5-6 volunteers each day from 8:45 AM-11:45 AM. Parents who volunteer are not required to ride the bus back and forth to the school and YMCA (You are welcome to drive yourself to the Y if you wish). Parents will also stay dry (you do not need to enter the pool). You will help students with boarding and getting off the bus and will supervise students getting ready in the change rooms before and after lessons. We request that parents who volunteer plan to help all classes in the morning, not just your own child’s class. A current CBE volunteer clearance is required.

June 1-4: Dennis, Gannon, McNabb, Mumford, Finn, Hartmann, Mask, MacLellan

June 8-11: Barrow, Walker, MacKenzie, Fernandez, van Runt, Milburn

Volunteer Tea: Our annual Volunteer Tea will be on Friday May 1. We want to celebrate your contributions to our school and show you our appreciation! If you have not yet RSVPed, please do so ASAP so we can plan for enough seating and treats for everyone😊 You will find the details and the link to RSVP HERE.

Field Trip Fees: Parents are reminded to check your MyCBE accounts regularly for fees that are added through the year. We have many field trips and exciting in-school experiences coming up in the next few months and timely payment allows the school to ensure that invoices to our service providers are paid on time. Field trips are an important part of our students’ learning experience and no student will be denied the opportunity due to inability to pay. If a fee will cause a financial hardship for your family, please contact me djmcasey@cbe.ab.ca to discuss how we might support you.

Grades 4 & 5 Spring Concerts: Along with the students and staff of Grade 4 and 5 Students at Bayside School, I would like to invite you to “Together a Forest” a concert based on the book by Roz MacLean. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their learning, be performers, and to come together as a community through music. There will be singing, instruments, and storytelling. Please check the email from Ms. McCune (sent April 17, 2026) for more information.
