Happy Friday Bayside!

Many of our teachers are hosting student teachers from the University of Calgary and from St. Mary’s University this year. We are so grateful to be a part of these future teachers’ journeys and we know they are learning so much from our amazing staff and students. At this point in the year, most of our student teachers are planning and leading lessons, participating in important meetings (such as learning conferences), and supporting with the myriad of other tasks that make up a teacher's day (supervision, team planning, committee work). Each experience is an important step as they work towards their Education degrees and future employment as teachers. Our student teachers will be with us until nearly the end of April. We are so happy to have them here at Bayside!

UPDATES & REMINDERS:

Dogs on School Property: A reminder to families that dogs are not permitted on school property according to City of Calgary Bylaw. We love our furry friends but there are people with varying levels of sensitivity in our community and we need to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable. Thank you!

Bus Zone: The City of Calgary Parking Authority was at Bayside School the other day issuing tickets to people parked in the bus zone. Our bus zone extends the full length of the school (look for the signs) along Auburn Springs Blvd. Parking or idling is not allowed in the bus zone. Finding a spot a short distance from the school and walking to your meeting spot can make the beginning and end of the day much less stressful for everyone!

Read-a-thon Prize Day! Thursday April 16 will be our Read-a-thon Prize Day where we celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our students. Olivia O and Hadley will be Principal and AP for the day for having read the most minutes (Olivia) and raised the most money (Hadley). We will also have 4 classes enjoy pizza parties that day. Thank you again to everyone who participated in the Read-a-thon and made it a huge success! Visit the Read-a-thon Results News story for all the details.

Lost and Found: Wondering what happened to your child’s winter coat? We would like to do a “spring clean-up” of our lost and found on May 8. Students will have the opportunity to do a “tour” of the items in the next couple of weeks with their teacher and parents are welcome to stop by the office and ask to check the lost and found yourself. If you aren’t able to come to the school to look, please email your child’s teacher if you have a particular missing item we can help your child find. Any items remaining on May 8 will be donated to Goodwill.

Kindergarten Registration Update: Our amazing office staff have completed processing Kindergarten Registrations for 2026-27 school year. At this time, we are planning for 4 Kindergarten Classes (2 Morning and 2 Afternoon). The number of registrations we received exceeded our capacity so some families have been overflowed to Andrew Sibbald School.

We are finalizing AM and PM student enrolment. We may need to do a draw for AM and PM kindergarten placement for the 2026-27 school year. There are currently slightly more requests for morning (AM) kindergarten than spaces available.

Students who were registered in School Engage on or before February 11, 2026 will be included in the draw. Students who were registered in School Engage after February 11 will be added to AM and PM classes as space allows in the order the registration is received. We will communicate with families via email next week.

Families who do not receive their preferred placement in AM or PM will be added to a wait list and will be offered placement in the order of the draw as spaces become available.

More information about Kindergarten Registration is available here.
